At a glance this looks like an optical illusion

Really loving the look of this board, flipping the nav cluster to the left on a TKL actually looks good! I also really like the way you designed the sides & bottom, the aggressive lines & angles make for very striking side profile! 6061 alum is kinda a bummer, but I’d imagine 6063 is crazy expensive. Well GL with this project! I’m gonna fill out the IC form cause I’d love to buy one when they do run!

is there anyone else interests in this board? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I just placed my order for the prototype PCB.

I will ask about Alu 6063 when I place order for prototype case. :+1:

I’m sure you’ll get more traction on Geekhack. A fully working proto in hand would go a long way, also an exploded render would be nice to have.

The board looks pretty neat and definitely fills a vacuum layoutwise, but top mount is not exactly the current meta. I’m not saying top mount is inherently bad but I expect that’s gonna be turning some potential customers off of the design. Glwic! : )

Hello,
I got an update

The prototype is here

I’m a bit hesitant to show the prototype, its not good as I expected. :frowning:

The case pieces fit a bit tightly, so I think I will adjust the bottom piece’s dimension a bit (so they won’t rub against each other)

I’m worry about the anodization job, which is not good, I guess I will switch to another anodization shop.

is there anythings I can do to improve the product? (maybe… some finishing process that can be done before anodization) any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Even though there are a few issues, I want to proceed with the GB and see it through.

The price of the kit is: 250 USD + shipping

I think I need 1 to 2 weeks to setup the store then the GB may start.

Awesome price!

Do you happen to have a picture of the plate mounting? I think that would help a lot of people who are curious about the board…

In the original post, you put,

Have you confirmed the route you will be going for the weight? I guess it does say “pending” in the kit content.

I have updated the album :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
(stainless steel plate was used to reduce prototype cost)

I forgot to update this, there is no weight (for this run), unfortunately. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi,
I’m having troubles with shipping rate, :slightly_frowning_face:
anyone has any tips about how to (accurately) calculate the shipping rate?

I thought of going the “third party” route, I reached out to a local vendor but they rejected me, I guess they’re busy.

is it good practice to charge the shipping fee later? (when the boards are ready to be shipped)

I’ve been part of a few GBs where I’ve paid for the board at first then got invoiced for shipping when the product was ready to ship. I think that would probably be the best way to go about it with the way shipping rates have been recently. AFAIK unless you are shipping a large amount of boards there really isn’t any discounts or anything you could get on the rates.

Typically for smaller runs, vendors will send invoice #1 at time of groupbuy allowing users to pay for their board.

Once the boards are produced and shipped to the GB runner, then they’ll send out invoice #2 which would be the precise calculated shipping costs per each person. This helps with potentially updated or changing prices as the worldwide situation changes.
