[IC] SA Welles- A Film Noir inspired set- Complete Kits, SEA Vendor Added

Since it’s my first post here- let me introduce everyone to SA Welles, a keycap set inspired by the aesthetic of Film Noir. It is named after Orson Welles, who appeared in many Noir Classics, such as Touch of Evil. Using the SA profile in its (IMO) most comfortable form (1-1-2-3-4-3), it’s designed to provide a mature, smooth look and comfortable typing with a profile that matches the look. Using stock SP colors (TU/RBC/GSS), this set is designed to be visually compatible with most common board colors and be something a professional would want in their office. Because I am limited on the number of pictures I can post, I’ll post the base kitting diagram and fill it in later.

I am looking forward to everyone’s feedback!

That’s a nice combination of colors.

Cheers and GLWIC! A very classy colorway, indeed.

A Paul Masson novelty artisan might be a cheeky pairing for this set…

Okay, that’s cool…, and taking it in a direction I’ve not thought of.

Here’s a few renders now I am out of Newbie jail. I have an accent kit as well, which I’ll also post.

I’d love a Paul Masson accent kit or novelty, or something pea-green to wink at his infamous frozen pea commercials…

I’ve been doing a bunch of work correcting the color balance.

Commemorating that, here’s a bunch of renders.

I am starting to try to do novelties- here’s a first shot. This is all subject to change, but I think I am happy with it.

Here’s another preview of the Final Novelties.

Did you find an artist to work with, or are you doing them yourself?

For RoundHouse, I found a license-able logo font to use on some keys, and decided to just make the rest text novelties that were as fun and goofy as possible to compensate for not having imagery.

The femme fatale is a creative commons/FOSS piece, just to get an idea. I like the piece, so maybe if I do find an artist, she’s staying. The goal is to find an artist, which I have been slowly going through my personal contacts to do. Next step is to go to the Fiverrs of the world, or ask around at our design school.

Depending on what you have in mind I might be able to help. I’ve done graphic design and specialized in single-color illustration in a professional capacity for many years, and have designed many emblems in that time with a focus on visibility / readability at small sizes. What kind of imagery where you thinking?

Yes, I would be super interested since the concept is film noir/pulp fiction, and I think a few glyphs/concepts would naturally follow the idea.

ISO Enter: Femme Fatale
ANSI Enter: Profile of a PI
R1 1U (ESC): Fedora
Control (1.5/1.25): High Heel
Alt(1.5/1.25): Cig in ashtray
1.25 Super: Browning High Power (Automatic Pistol of Correct Vintage)
1.75 Tab: .38 Special
R3 1U (1U Super): Syringe
R4 1U (1U FN): Martini Glass
R1 2U (BS): .38 special cartridge

Cool! I would be delighted to take a whack at this. If you aren’t in too much of a hurry I’d be happy to do it on the house, using my down-time at work to do the illustrations - I’ve just always wanted to contribute to a keyset.

Would you mind posting / sending / linking a native image of or more straight-on image of the Femme Fatale graphic so I can use it to kind of set the tone / style for the rest?

Sure, it’ll be a few hours, but I’d be happy to.

Here’s the basic outline:

I think there’s a bunch along this archetype we can go- maybe something like Ava Lorde in Sin City or Talia Al Ghul…

Perfect! In the coming days I’ll drip-feed these in DMs as I complete them. It varies from day to day but I usually do have time throughout the week - I’ll keep you posted.

Just noting an updated render and kitting diagram. Will be updating the numpad kit as well.

Also, here’s a new render of the set, featuring a Piggy.

Just wanted to show off Welles a little bit. Learning blender by leaps and bounds.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

@Deadeye Has sent me some of the Novelties- I’ll make a teaser in a few days. They look excellent.

I’ve updated the kitting diagrams for the new standard render kit. The next thing on my plate other than novelties is the “extension” kit, which will have accents and “good to haves,” to ensure wider compatibility

Also, as a teaser and to show off a little bit, here’s the latest render featuring a Geon F1-8X.
