Since it’s my first post here- let me introduce everyone to SA Welles, a keycap set inspired by the aesthetic of Film Noir. It is named after Orson Welles, who appeared in many Noir Classics, such as Touch of Evil. Using the SA profile in its (IMO) most comfortable form (1-1-2-3-4-3), it’s designed to provide a mature, smooth look and comfortable typing with a profile that matches the look. Using stock SP colors (TU/RBC/GSS), this set is designed to be visually compatible with most common board colors and be something a professional would want in their office. Because I am limited on the number of pictures I can post, I’ll post the base kitting diagram and fill it in later.
I will rework the IC post, as I had an incorrect color setting on Blender while building this. The plus side is that the new color setting is closer to what I had in mind when I designed the set. Here’s a bit of a teaser, and I’ll have updated renders for everything. Also, if you buy into it, I will not proceed with the set before I have SP color chips in hand and have seen samples.
Another day, another render. Here’s me learning blender a bit more and trying to nail the theme. Super grateful for the people who have helped me with learning blender.
Did you find an artist to work with, or are you doing them yourself?
For RoundHouse, I found a license-able logo font to use on some keys, and decided to just make the rest text novelties that were as fun and goofy as possible to compensate for not having imagery.
The femme fatale is a creative commons/FOSS piece, just to get an idea. I like the piece, so maybe if I do find an artist, she’s staying. The goal is to find an artist, which I have been slowly going through my personal contacts to do. Next step is to go to the Fiverrs of the world, or ask around at our design school.
Depending on what you have in mind I might be able to help. I’ve done graphic design and specialized in single-color illustration in a professional capacity for many years, and have designed many emblems in that time with a focus on visibility / readability at small sizes. What kind of imagery where you thinking?
Yes, I would be super interested since the concept is film noir/pulp fiction, and I think a few glyphs/concepts would naturally follow the idea.

Cool! I would be delighted to take a whack at this. If you aren’t in too much of a hurry I’d be happy to do it on the house, using my down-time at work to do the illustrations - I’ve just always wanted to contribute to a keyset.
Would you mind posting / sending / linking a native image of or more straight-on image of the Femme Fatale graphic so I can use it to kind of set the tone / style for the rest?
Perfect! In the coming days I’ll drip-feed these in DMs as I complete them. It varies from day to day but I usually do have time throughout the week - I’ll keep you posted.
