Welcome to KeebTalk! Board looks great!
So if you mix Jamon alphas with Wob mods you get GMK Burgundy.
Or GMK Burnt Bacon as I like to call this combo

Looks rather “Star Wars Imperial.” What if you put it on a white board? Pretty slick
Yeah I like that ideal! I’ll throw it on my Meridan later when I have a chance to see what that looks like.
Thanks very much!
I didn’t even just tip into the rabbit hole…I pretty much fell headlong into it
This keycap looks so textured! It’s the type I like
I love it.
You’re the same as I thought
But it’s really hard not to be tempted by the pink and purple keycaps.
Mixing MTNU R&D 1973 with Dolch for accents
Can’t decide between a nice soft blue or bright amber for the accent LED
Canoe. There’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time.
I’ve put more time and resources into this keyboard than any other I’ve owned.
I rebuilt this board 3 times with the original PCB.
But I never liked the way it felt. I had a Mechlovin PCB and FR4 plate that sat around for years. I finally decided to make it better. But the result was still not good.
@Rico helped me to fine tune a new plate (went through several versions) that would result in a better feel and sound. Learned a lot about the design of this board (and it’s limitations) while trying to improve it.
It is milmaxed with 1.2million actuation blacks that I hand lubed (1 at a time to preserve matching parts) and filmed. I’m still planning to redo the springs at some point because they are about 4g too heavy.
But I can say without a doubt that it now feels and sounds 100% better.
Glad that you managed to find the perfect combo for this board, the result is simply superb !
Ive been having fun with the RC1, I put some R2 Realforce caps on it, as well as some accent caps from various Realforce generations and some artisans. Honestly, while the looks and layout of this board are divisive, I am for sure loving it. Especially after painting the case beige (should have been a factory option on release).
GMK Evil Dolch mods, novelties, shine through Caps and Num Lock, F row and space bar
Generic WOB Cherry alphas, 10 keys and media keys
CLONE Evil Dolch / and * in the numpad, because I’d rather have that vs an X and division icon.
Keychron V6
I’m not a huge fan of the dark gray alphas in the Evil Dolch base, so I swapped them out with cheapies. Moving this board to daily drive duty at work!
I’ve enjoyed lurking this mix-and-match thread before, and, although it’s somewhat dormant, it seemed like the right place to put un update on my Commodore keycaps project.
My first attempt at adapting Commodore kecayps to a modern layout was to use them in combination with MT3 WoB:
The MT3 narrow legends and spherical tops match the Commodore look quite well, and the height difference between the two is small enough that I probably could have worked with it even without any additional mods. But, in person, the WoB colors just did not match as well as I had hoped. So I returned the set to DROP and am looking for some alternative. I’m thinkin’ maybe SA 1980s.
In the mean time, the Commodore keycaps are sadly temporarily out of use. The height difference with the 8BitDo M keycaps is too great to type on comfortably, so I’m back to MT3 Susuwatari on the alpha block:
…which, frankly, I don’t think looks all that bad!
It even feels pretty decent, as I think MT3 is better suited for the alpha block, while less agressive profiles feel better on everything else. In my opinion, the same features that make MT3 feel good to touch type on make it feel uncomfortable when hunting for and then striking something like a function key, from a greater distance. I’ve gotten the impression that hunt-and-peck typists don’t generally like MT3 as much as touch typists, and I think this might be why.
Never really considered mixing and matching profiles, but definitely am now!
