I have both Topre and MX Blacks in my rotation, and they’re great fun to type with. In my experience, Boba U4s are a closer approximation to Topre than Tealios with the more rounded tactile event and nice “thud”.
For the sake of getting a real topre experience, I would recommend starting with stock domes. Because once you change to DES or BKE, it really is a different experience (both sound and feel). I agree with @chono tho that you may end up liking BKE domes more.
When I got into topre, I was mainly using zealios v2. Topre 45g feels much more linear. What I like topre the most is the unique soft bottom out. Some of the MX silent have that soft bottom-out feel, but none is as near as satisfying.
This thread is the perfect example of how we use the same words (in this case, degree of tactility) to describe very different things, lol. I would have never considered stock Topre to be “very” or “extremely” tactile, even well-aged ones - but if the baseline is MX Brown…I can understand it, lol.
OP, what are some examples of “VERY tactile tactile switches” that you like?
I actually think people are using the word tactility in this thread entirely correctly. The definition of tactility, from several sources is:
The quality or state of being tactile; perceptibility by touch; tangibleness.
Thus this thread is more of an example of the range of peoples perception and opinion on something can vary as it pertains to the feel of a keyboard switch.
Sorry for being unclear, I had meant the words used to describe tactility (such as “very” or “extremely” and even tactile used as an adjective, lol) and not tactility itself.
I think you were clear. I’m saying that someone can absolutely perceive something as “extremely tactile” and you will not share that same perception, yet both of you will be correct.
There is no objective measure for tactile, it’s all perception based. So there’s no way to really normalize on that apart from among your own experiences.

Luke, use the slider.
May the Realforce be with you
Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.
These aren’t the boards you’re looking for.
Totally fair! My only concern with this is that it sounds ruinously expensive Ironic when talking about keyboards, I know.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Nopre. j/k.
Topre doesn’t disappoint IMO. Give it a shot if it isn’t going to kill your wallet.
It is a mess, @leemu for sure. I debated it myself. I can say, having a 30g HHKB is for me. I’m glad I did the swap. And my wife uses the Realforce I got for the swapping. The board you swap HHKB domes into is still functional. And any non-keyboard obsessed person in your life is more than happy to use a “variable” weight TKL. It’s a formerly all 30g board with 60 of its keys now being 45g.
This type of thing isn’t for everybody, but I can say for me, its been great.
“Ruinously Expensive” is a pretty accurate depiction of what the Topre life is like lol.
A year later I tried Topre. I had the opportunity to get a great deal on a Realforce RGB TKL and I have to say it doesn’t overwhelm me with greatness. I think I would like an HHKB better for the sound, and maybe some stiffer domes. Overall I am underwhelmed with the Realforce RGB.
I can see some potential for greatness, but the sound and feel are not there for me on this one.
Realforce RGB is not considered to be one of the better examples of Topre. The difference in housings seems to make everything a lot more rattle prone and harsh. Based on second hand comments I’ve read at least.
The HHKB might be one to try out, but I would highly suggest a Leopold FC660C if you’re considering an HHKB. I would say between my Realforce TKL and the Leopold, the latter was far better out of the box. In both cases, I opted for the “silent” version of the switches.
I have an HHKB too and it’s okay, but not as good as the Leopold.
I have the same MX switch preference and did not like Niz or RGB realforce either. I have found an 87u or 91u realforce keyboard with 55g+ domes to be the best. I sold almost all of my MX boards and now only have topre. I do not regret switching at all and the community is great.
