The last two batches of retooled blacks I got from novelkeys were really scratchy compared to the better linears. They sound great though, ended up saving the tops to put on other linears.
Just tried a few. Definitely scratchy, even with lube. And sound is indeed very nice, at par with Black Inks.
I’m going to use them unlubed for a while to break them in.
The gist I have gathered across the internets is that Cherry linears take particularly well to break-in. In my own experience, Cherry switches in general do (i like these Browns a lot better now than i did when I got them), but with linears it’s obviously the most pronounced.
Got my ProjectKeyboard Alice PCB and plate today!!
Also got the novelties for the SA Berserk R2
Now if an aluminum Alice Case that wasn’t $500+ came out I’d be set
Damn, save some of the Fugus for the rest of us.
You are not gonna like the pics I’ll have coming later then . Met someone local to me on r/mm selling a bunch of Fugus & I’ll be meeting them to grab 3 of them (Topre Fire Guppy, MX Earl of Grantham, & a MX Glazed Alubmin Fugu) later today. Although you will be happy to hear that I did save some for others, 10 were up for sale & I only went for 3 of them even though there were a couple others I’d have like to grab. See, I make sure there is some Fugu love to go around even being a collector of those sculpts.
Edit: Just got in from grabbing them!
So glad to have a Topre Fire Guppy again as that was my second artisan I ever got! I ended up grabbing one cause I liked to colorway so much, then traded it cause I had it for like a year & still hadn’t gotten a Topre board. A little more than a month after I got rid of it I got my 660C, go figure, LOL!
You have an ocean of Fugu’s at this point! I gotta ask for a family photo of those spiky caps.
Would be curious to see the collection also!
LOL, I’m getting there @Ghghop! I’ll put them together & snap a pic here in a little bit.
Edit: Here’s a pic of my whole ETF collection.
Just received my PCBs from JLCPCB, all black with ENIG finish.
The black solder mask is looking great: opaque, not matte but with a nice satin finish instead.
Also received a bunch of passive components (resistors, diodes, capacitors) from their sister company LCSC to populate the PCBs with.
And now to solder all that stuff…
Looking good. Standard 1800 layout?
The look of this board was one of the things that caused me to get more seriously into keyboards, tbh. Hasu controller coming soon.
Yes it is a standard ISO and ANSI 1800 layout, with a few possibilities for: the bottom row, stepped caps lock, split backspace and full 1u keys for numpad.
A Swiss cheese to say the least
I have wondered how many times shipments like these have gotten opened up to see what’s really in them or get picked out to be ran through extra scans or the sniffing dogs, LOL!
Decided to grab a Klippe-T since I don’t have any higher end 60% cases but have a few builds that deserve them, it came in today!
Nice box that can be reused for storage or shipping, excellent packaging that looks like it would hold up to the roughest mail carrier. The case itself is super nice, excellent ano & finishing. Everything looks pretty much perfect going over it closely (anything you can see in the photos is just dust from the packaging & fingerprints). The only places where there is any imperfections is on top of the standoffs, which I’m not gonna take any strikes off for. You’ll never see them when in use & that area will get scratched up from installing/uninstalling different setups in it anyways. I still have to let it warm up & put my ALPS64 build in it, but the first impressions I got of this case are really good. Will report back after I get a build in it & try it out!
Edit: Put my ALPS 64 build in it & am really liking it so far! The Klippe feels much more solid & sounds much better than the KBDfans 5° case I had it in. I’m honestly surprised at how much of a difference just having a thicker bottom makes! I opted to go with both of the middle standoffs removed & a MKUltra foam under the PCB which makes for a very nice soft & flexy feel with this build using a FR-4 plate. Although having the middle standoffs removed the plate/PCB combo does bend up a slight bit in the middle, you have to very cautiously screw the plate/PCB combo down watching the back of the case to keep it to a minimum. That is an issue with using just the side standoffs on any tray mount case though. All in all I feel like it is fairly expensive for a tray mount case, but overall worth it IMO.
I have a craving for Andes mints after seeing the back for this case…
