Got my seet of DCS SMRT in today! Looks like all the keys are accounted for (no doubles or missing keys). They also sent it with one of the nice bags for storage! Although I do really wish SP would invest in some better packaging or tougher shipping boxes. As this was all sent packed into the smallest box possible, like literally taped together to close properly… Which could easily allow the caps to get damaged if the box gets handled too rough. Even just a bigger box with some type of bubble wrap or foam would do TBH. Since I do like the way they package the keys & will be putting them into JTK trays. Oh well, glad my set arrived in good shape. Otherwise I am very happy with the set, definitely a banger IMO! @Piperaceae great work on this one!
Yay! Thank you! I know Will and SP are looking at better packaging, they just haven’t had a chance to implement it yet. I’m glad this arrived intact, and I’m excited because this is my own very first glimpse at the set! I haven’t seen any production or sample photos yet, and my own set probably won’t arrive in Boston until next week.
Ok, awesome to hear hear they are already looking into better packaging already! I can send you better photos of the caps if you want too. SP nailed it as usual though IMHO. Colors are as expected, all the caps are accounted for, long keys are all looking pretty straight (haven’t tested them yet, but don’t expect any issues with them), & the kerning is good. Thanks again for running this, a proper modern Wyse set has been on my wishlist for a long time! Super happy to have it in my hands now!

The colors have had me a little anxious. Comptec’s own resin varied because hobbyists weren’t a thing back then, and everyone’s vintage boards have aged differently, original packaging or no. So it’s not going to be a perfect replica. A tribute, yes, but not a replica. Part of wanting to do a full set versus a moogle was so people wouldn’t need to mix and match new with vintage (although they can if they want, and are aware it might be a smidge off).
They’re actually a very close match to the underside of most of the OG Wyse caps I got (all my OG sets have some yellowing on the top sides)! Although just like you said there is a pretty decent variation of shades with the OG Wyse caps. But I think if someone got OG Wyse caps that haven’t yellowed too much these should match pretty closely. I got a few things to take care of soon, but I’ll PM you some better pics of them that you could use on socials & a few comparison shots with OG Wyse a little later.
Splendid, thank you! Yeah, I have a 1985 WY-85 here that I used for research when I designed SMRT, and the GSX/GTD chips are a little off compared to it, but close. My board looks like it sat in partial sunlight, with a noticeable yellow gradient from left to right across the board!
Really loving the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I preordered the rest of the hardcovers of the series that are available for preorder and this just showed up at my house today!
I don’t know what to call it. it’s some kind of 75% in a full metal case, converted to USB. The assembly is mounted via screw holes in the bottom of the case. Switches feel very nice. Stiff and very tactile, with only some larger keys binding on off-center presses. Might try and lube those, or at least one of them as a test.
I don’t know what these switches are. The first assumption by some in the SwitchModders discord was that they are some kind of foam and foil, but i don’t think so. They feel rather firm and have a solid bottom out sound and there is some kind of rubber mat under them. Maybe some kind of EC or rubber dome with individual switches?

They are! And they are convex instead of concave, with switches that only have half of the travel of the rest. A Strange thing.
Well, Route did get it fixed pretty quickly (same day as I posted this).
Kono, on the other hand, has been radio silent since that order was placed. Almost a month later and still no ship notification. Sent an email to support@kono.store and then tried to check it on their help site. Said I needed to login so tried to do the reset password thing, but it just sat their and spun when I hit change password.
Broke out the browser tools and saw this error message. Now I’m wondering if there’s anyone answering emails there at all. 
In better news, MTNU Darling landed recently. Currently trying to find the Right Board to put it on.
- A small set of 10 of those Moldy Cabbage Yiwu switches. Full POM as far as i can tell, and really good.
- A big set of Cherry MX Clear. I’m not sure what to do with them just yet. Mostly bought them out of curiosity. Nothing noteworthy about them otherwise, i guess? Just POM stem PA housing tactile.
- Kyubi Keygeek Clacky. I really like those. Barely any wobble, very smooth and nice sound. A lot better than the Keygeek FM i bought some time ago, i didn’t like them a whole lot. Apparently U4 stem, PA66 top and PBT bottom.
- LCET Tinkerbell switches with “NEWFF” nameplate. No idea what their materials are, but they are decent. A little stem wobble but otherwise very smooth and they have a nice sound that’s right in the middle, maybe at the higher pitched part of the middle.
- LCET POM+UPE mix linear stems, 13.6mm long. Nothing else noteworthy.
- Cherry Nylon Tops. I don’t know why i bought those, i’m not planning on making BCP and i don’t know what else to put those on.
- LCET UPE stems. 13.6mm long too with a rounded pole bottom. Not sure if those are actual UPE, but they are smooth and have a more muffled sound.
MX housings can be used to build lighter, less-tactile U4T switches, using the stems.
I think they are compatible with Geon tactile / linear stems, as well.
The Cherry tops are great to use on Meteor Orange tactiles, for a more Cherry-like sound.
Of course, you likely know most of this already. You might experiment making Ergo Clears with more exotic springs, such as medium 18mm or light 22mm.
Not gonna lie. Went searching for this post again because that Endgame is so nice. Really contemplating building one.
