Just learned about mechanical keyboards a few days ago. Thinking about trying a Keychron q3 he if I can find a barebones in white. I’ll watch around for a sale price for a little while. Still learning about switches, but thinking silent tactile. Still learning about keycaps, but I have a color scheme.

I think it’s cool with the right keycaps and right colorway. Looks like something I might pick up for cheaper down the road.

This was my wife’s keycap set for the longest time. I refused to get rid of it when she swapped to a new set after how it took for them to arrive in the first place.

I found a supposed NOS TKL set of SA Genespeed on ebay for a pretty good deal. I think I’ve now got the hand-wire build set for one of those Sequence cases I bought:
- Parallel Sequence bare case (“silver”)
- RP2040-Zero that fits in the UDB cutout
- Gateron Navy Blue (pauper’s Melodics, or so I’m told in another thread)
- possible spring swap. Let’s see how they feel on a spare plate at least.
- Mostly no-stabs layout that fits a 70% into a 65% case. I do like that 3x2 nav block that Thinkpads do with the PgUp and PgDn.
- I noticed the keyset at least has the common 2.25u and 2.75u mini-spaces, so I’m going to try something I keep talking about, and do switch-stabilized split spacebars (likely one Navy Blue and one red or even lighter). Everything else will leverage Godspeed’s nonsense legends to make the kitting work. SP’s 112343 row layout rides to the rescue once again, as I’ll have something to use for a 1.25u caps lock.

NovelKeys is having a “10th Birthday Sale” and I picked up a Classic TKL in Ironstone Orange, CYL Dots R2 in the Dark Base, and a sticker pack, because hey, why not?
I really debated between the Firestone Orange and the Classic-GLO Phosphor (frosted, glows blue) for an incredibly long time. Nearly bought both at one point before I slowed my roll a bit

Eh, I don’t have CRP yet…do I want to get CRP Beige R7? I really like the stepped keys and the grey alphas are neat. I can never decide…but I feel like someday I should probably have a set of CRP
The only few issues to be aware of is the stems are not recessed and will sit a little higher than GMK. And depending on the switches you use, they will fit on Cherry, Gateron, Kailh and BSUN stems but not on JWK which feels very loose (not sure for any of the recent switches like HMX and Keygeek).
If you’re fine with it being non-recessed and you know the switches you use won’t fly off the stem, it’s my favorite choice for PBT!

I had no idea about this - thank you! Do you have certain board+switch combos that you prefer CRP on? I can imagine the not being recessed part might look weird with some combos - I’ll contemplate!

I generally type on stiffer boards and use 70g-80g 16mm MX Black. Even though the heavier springs help soften the bottom out, CRP adds an extra comfort and works well with lighter springs too. I can’t say if it helps with long poles, I’ve only tried those switches with GMK.
If you were to do half-plate/plateless, it’s still comfortable but when it already has enough cushion, I’m fine using GMK just to get that solid feedback when bottoming out.
The non-recessed stems part depends on the case design, like high profile cases that are supposed to cover the side of the keycaps. Say if the height on the edge of the case is tall enough to cover the bottom edge of the keycap on GMK, CRP shouldn’t have too much of a gap between them. If it didn’t cover the edge of GMK caps, then you might see the issue with the CRP stems not being recessed.

Thank you for the comparison shots! I go a bit lighter on the springs and do use long-pole, but stay with stiffer builds as well. I’ll have to see what builds I have where the switches are close to not being covered by the case. Also, beautiful Dolphin!
