Brass Plate Oxidization

I read an article over on Deskthority talking about someone being worried their brass plate would oxidize. Is this a legitimate concern? Do brass plates oxidize that quickly? I’ve read around about keeping brass from tarnishing but I’m still a little skeptical. Any thoughts on this?

I’ve seen brass weights tarnish and oxidize, I see no reason why unfinished brass plates would be immune.

I think it adds nice character to the keyboard depending on how it is. Sometimes a brass patina can look pretty nice

Based on Wikipedia’s description, it also depends on on the alloy used. For instance adding aluminum makes it more resistant. My experience has been that it can discolor a little with finger oils and/or moisture but otherwise oxidation isn’t a huge problem. When I assemble switches on a brass plate I typically use gloves to reduce finger prints.
