I bought a Mac mini in the OpenClaw fervor, but when I connect my brand-new Cherry keyboard to it, the keyboard appears broken: NumLock LED doesn’t light up, and even worse I can only use the number pad to type numbers.
I am so used to switching the NumLock on and off to type in numbers, or to use the arrow keys. Yes there are dedicated arrow keys, but having arrow keys together with Home, end, Page up, Page down, and Del together in a fixed layout is so convenient. I have done this for more than 30 years, it’s so hard to change.
I searched on the Internet. People have been complaining for decades, literally and yet there isn’t a solution.
So I decided to create an app myself. Google “NumLockLED” for the app!
It’s written in C and it’s only 300kb. It does nothing but fix this issue - once it is running, your keyboard will no longer appear broken on Mac. NumLock LED toggles on and off, switching the number pad between the numbers and navigation.
Even the scroll lock LED is fixed. I don’t want my new keyboard feels broken and now I am happy.
