Finally picked this guy up! Now, I’m just going insane because I have to try and figure out how to find a plate-mount stabilizer that doesn’t suck and how to make it sound good. Frankly, I’m considering just buying a few orders of the same stab type in order to bin them myself.

Taobao has a lot of good plate-mount stabs last I checked. Maybe try checking out SP Star Plate Mount Stabs, I heard they’re pretty good. Or Everglide Panda V3.

What’s the best way to get MX-mount Topre (to be replaced with BKE domes) in a 1800/980/fullsize layout? I’ve become hopelessly entrenched in Blender these days, and dragged my girlfriend with me - so now I need to build her a board with a numpad, and she fell in love with my HHKB with BKE Lights! But she also wants some custom-printed caps from one of the new-fangled all-over dyesub shops, and there’s no Topre mount option that I’m aware of. So do I get and gut a FC980m to use Deskeys sliders/housings, or do I get a NIZ fullsize and do a dome swap/add silencing rings?

No a Topre expert, think @Andreas should answer much better.
But my take is if you want a 1800 layout the leopold should be the way to go.
But if a full size is ok, then you can buy a used Realforce 104 and use it as a base.
This is what @Andreas suggested me to do and this is what I did; although I don’t personally plan to keep the case it is very solid and many people swear by using it stock or nearly.

Yes, get yourself a 980C and do a switch housign-swap/slider for Deskeys or KLC parts. IMHO — after testing most Topre boards, the 980C is the most premium OOTB experience you can get — if you can get one.
That being said, I’m also working on a project for a FRL-1800 housing, but that will be a while.
