Gateron Pro Ultra Glory Yellow Switch Review

Hey all,

I can’t say I’ve ever had to write down the full proper name of a switch on a sticky note before just to make sure I didn’t screw it up when writing the review. With that, I present a full length review of the Gateron Pro Ultra Glory Yellow switches. I wonder if their performance lived up to all of those descriptors shoved into that name…

As always, thank you all for the continued readership, love, and support week in and out. The upcoming pair of weekends may see a slight shift in content scheduling as I’ll be taking a trip for a decent part of a week that would interrupt my working time for both upcoming weekends. Regardless, I promise there will still be more switch stuff to read and learn about!

Cheers,
Goat :goat:

Loved the IHNM&IMS reference! Awesome review as always Goat! Any plans on reviewing the Pro Ultra Glory Super Saiyan Reds? Out of these two, those were the ones that really caught my attention due to the POK stem.

Settling in for a 42-minute Goat-fueled Safari voice reader session is a like a great warm beverage for my morning walk. Don’t ever change.

Do you think switches like this represent Gateron trying a change at scale? Could they have tested POK stems in Yellows and Reds internally at smaller scale with enough success to justify a larger run for information on variance at scale, knowing they could also sell the resulting one-time run? If it happened to become really popular, they could run it again, and they may see a switch release as publicity.

Gonna have to try Glory Yellow. Glory Red’s spring feels surprisingly good and not as light as its spec suggests but it has been so rewarding and long lasting (in daily rotations) despite less than impressive initial impression that I am left with wanting more of this series.

did you ever post about these? I remember you ordering them, but what is it that you like about them (other than the spring)?

Initial impression of Glory Red was meh. Clacky but sound didn’t stand out. Smooth like other switches. Little or no wobble. Full travel length. Well made. Great spring. Basically a switch designed to be underestimated.

Why I like it now:

  • Great spring. It collapses in a way that I have not been able to replicate exactly with other springs.
  • POK sound comes out during use, adding delightful twists to typing sound.
  • Reliable - Good all around quality. No crap sound. No weird noises.

This switch stayed in my rotation since I started using it, through ups and downs, becoming the fallback board I can rely on.

Good to know. Did you modify them at all, or are you using stock switches?

Stock Glory Reds are Poifect.

No need for lubing, filming, nor spring swapping if it’s in your range.

Oh darn, looks like Divinikey had them so I had to just go ahead and put some keycaps in the cart as well. :man_facepalming:
