I expect the polycarb HG to still be a lot heavier than stock HHKB case due to the rear steel plate whereas stock HHKB is 100% ABS
That is definitely accurate, though I oddly actually don’t have specific numbers right because I don’t have any of the physical samples on hand. Maybe @Manofinterests can provide us with a weight?
Wow. Stock HHKB only weighs 45g…that’s like a 26x increase
Actually weighs 530-540g, sans batteries
So beautifull !!
What sliders did you guys build your Grail with?
Did anybody build with Realforce Purple sliders?
I tested out Realforce Purples, HHKB Type-S, and Stock HHKB sliders, and felt that the Stock sliders felt the best on the Grail.
I was wondering what other people thought and went with!
did you put any silencing rings on the stock sliders? i’m thinking i might not mind not having my silenced stock sliders anymore when i build my GOCF heavy grail, since having them on means a lowered keyset
I didn’t put rings on the stock sliders, no.
I also noticed a pretty significant difference with and without the gasket. I much prefer the build with the gasket on. I felt that the keys sit too high without it.
And yeah, the slightly lowered keyset, with the domes slightly pre-loaded, doesn’t feel as good to me as that full topre tactile snap event, an explanation of which I credit to @JasonATXBS for pointing out to me!
Was wondering if all of these had shipped? Grabbed a k2 w/Pink switch plate during the pre-order phase but, haven’t seen much in the way of shipping notifications? Love some of these builds though. Excited to get this beast together.
Latest update as of yesterday: We’ve been notified by the factory that they’ll be slowly sending partial shipments our way starting this week into next week. We will begin QC right away and consequently fulfill orders.
SS is very heavy. Usually my rear cover plates are about the same weight as the whole aluminum housing, so that seems plausible to me when we’re comparing to something very light like ABS.
This. This stuff is always like pulling teeth with factories, but we at least we finally have a tracking number on the partial of the plates now and it should arrive to us this week, with more coming right after that.
Haha, in case it was unclear, I was being facetious by equivocating the rubber dome weight (45g) with the keyboard weight (530g), which was hidden by the spoiler feature.
But yes, sizeable increase in weight due to the SS plate.
It’s good to be back in my house. Took me a while to get back In the swing of keyboarding, but I got this hotness built up today.

This is a home run. Absolutely no issues assembling. Sounds incredible. Zero harshness in sound or feel. Perfect melding of metal, plastic, and rubber.
Really couldn’t be happier.
Hhkb pro 3 non-silenced. Light lube of 205g0 on sliders. Used the 25th anniversary edition caps (but used a black hhkb for internals)
Thank you so much for this @pixelpusher! I was so happy to read these words.
Looks amazing! I wish Veracity Steel would run one more time
Hello people. I can see mentions of R2 recently while I’m still waiting for R1’s K2 + pink plate. The last I heard was shipment just prior to Christmas but that’s nearing a month ago now, so just to check – were there any updates on this that I was per chance out of the loop on?
No bad vibes or demands here – just checking where we are. Thanks.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s probably associated with the delays many are experiencing due to omichron. I’m in for one of the R2 ones as well, so I’m guessing it will probably still be a while.
Thanks. Were there any updates in that regard? By some strange fluke I have been missed out on the update emails twice before, so wanted to know if anyone know about what’s up with those remaining R1 stranglers.
Yeah, I think in one of the recent email updates he mentioned the status page on his shop. This should be what you’re looking for. Status of Pre-orders
Yes, everything is a little delayed at the moment. Two of our workshop team have been out the past couple of weeks as a precaution due to coming into contact with Covid-positive individuals, so that has also slowed us down additionally. But the switch plates arrived for the balance of R1 and we’re making good progress.
