By ‘commission’ do you mean for someone to assemble/build?
Since it’s a topre board, it’s probably lubing he’s paying for (and assembly)
Commissioned as in full build w/ other requirements. (dry lubing stems with RO-59)
Waw that’s expensive for relatively simple work.
I think some of those are priced okay, and others are priced too high, but hopefully Unreal does a great job for you and you enjoy your board when it gets found
Thank you. Yes, relatively simple work but ‘time’ I guess that I thought I would have but no longer do outside spending few hours here and there over a certain time period. Life works in mysterious ways.
Some things may be pricey, but often times they’re not worth what you value as your time .
I have a question for the Norbaforce owners - Is it possible to get a USB-C breakout PCB? All my cables are USB-C so it would be nice to be able to use the norba without changing cables. cc @norbauer
tldr; it’s not happening according to Ryan
Thats unfortunate, didn’t think it was going to be hard to do USB-C instead of minis.
the debate has definitely been going on for quite a long time, but basically from what i’ve gathered (someone please correct if I’m wrong) it is unnecessarily difficult (emphasis on unnecessarily) for true USB-C to USB-C compatibility (a lot of USB-C ports on boards only work with a USB-C to USB-A cables) and until there becomes a much more compelling reason it won’t really be done
I wasn’t aware of any debate. People sometimes ask if I’ll do C and on the Norbaforce and I just say no and give a bunch of reasons why. One of these is mentioned above by @dirtegg. I’m open to counter-arguments but haven’t heard any yet. FWIW, you can buy cables with USB mini on one end and USB C on the other.
Future keyboards of mine will likely have C, but I think it’s not worth re-engineering the Norbaforce.
ah yes, that is what I was referring to!
my personal desire for a USB-C norbaforce went away when I realized that it was the start of my Topre collection and so I was going to be seeing USB-mini for quite a while.
Someone designed a new daughter board with qmk (hasu usb2usb) and usbc for the original Realforce, unfortunately it’s not compatible with r2 but it’s open source so if someone with skills would be up for it, it should be doable to adjust it for r2.
hey could you provide a link to this project? I’ve been looking for something similar!
Here you go:
thank you!
Will you use it in a classic or modify it for r2?
If anybody needs a Norbaforce with a USB C port through-hole, you can email shop@norbauer.com to inquire, as I have a couple of Mark I units left, I believe. (The Mark I had USB C connectors on the breakout PCB even though we didn’t fully support the C protocol, the confusion around which is why I switched to Mini.)
Not sure yet. Was just looking for an internal remapper/controller type of thing.
@norbauer Thanks, the reason why I brought this up is almost everything is USB-C these days and so while switching boards it’s nice to just plug one out and the other in. It’s just a matter of convenience, there is no technical merit at least in my mind about using one over another. Not a big deal at the end of the day.
