If ever there was some sign we slipped into an alternate timeline sometime during the pandemic, it might be the fact that Greetech is now releasing multiple switches and seemingly wanting to pick up production at that. Leading the charge is their new “OG” Brown switches, retools and updates of their classic, OEM-style light tactile switch from circa 2015. But are these Greetech OG Brown switches truly the new, best light tactile on the scene, or yet another “tactile Brown” switch to be forgotten in time?
As always, thank you all for the continued love, support, and readership week in and out. As per the top of the article, please consider checking out some of those alternative, non-writing resources of mine as I continue to upload new cool switches I get in in the coming weeks and months!
I wish I could recall the specific board, but when I was early on in the hobby I remembered helping proxy a board to someone overseas that was kind of like this. It was some board at the time worth >$700 that had completely stock, unmodified Cherry MX Blacks, an MX Grey spacebar, and stabs without an ounce of tuning.
Felt a bit weird to have a Vortex beater that I had modded with a better feeling than a high end board as such.
I remember one of the keyboard Youtubers built an “entirely inadequate” keyboard made from what were known to be the worst components.
This would be kind of an inversion - the best keyboard components, but with Greetech Browns. [Perhaps the Greetech Browns are carefully lubed, filmed, and spring-swapped. And diamond-polished. But that might detract from the contrast here.]
One could be, using the ‘most expensive’ [but not necessarily tasteful] components, in combination with the Greetech Browns. This would be the “Homer Simpson car” of keyboards: extravagant, confused, and terrible.
[Perhaps using GMK Handarbeit.]
The other route is to emphasize the contrast.
The keyboard could be a well-built premium board, carefully assembled to best bring out the characteristics of the stock Greetech Browns.
It could have a plate selected to enhance typing feel, and a resonant case to better amplify the Greetech Brown’s unmodified sound characteristics.
It would be presented as the pinnacle of Millennial Gray or Gen Z Green tasteful office decor, with lavish typing-tests animated with Japanese / Korean twee.
