Glad to have stumbled upon this forum. I recently got into the keyboard world and am really enjoying learning and listening to all the different builds that people have come up with. I have known about these mechanical keyboards, I use them at work but have never looked into the building/modifying them.
I currently have a couple GMMK Pro’s, I know it’s old and people are mad at it, but I like em. Let me know if you have one and want to get rid of it! But for my nice build I have a Neo75Cu delivering next week. I’m searching for the perfect keycap set to put on it. I still haven’t found it.
Glad to be here. I’ll be perusing around and learning from yalls. I hope that one day I will be able to contribute something useful to the forum. See you around!
IMO the GMMK Pro is totally decent if maybe a bit overpriced in the current market - I think you’re going to love the Neo, though - they might be the best bang-for-buck in the whole game right now.
Thank you for the welcoming! When I saw the prices for the GMMK Pro I was put off, but luckily I like to shop on the eBay and I picked up a prebuilt, keyboard only for $35. It’s what I’m typing on at the moment haaha.
I’m really excited for the Neo. I got to fondle a 65Cu and I was very impressed with the overall quality of the product. It was a tough one choosing between copper and brass but copper is heavier so I went for that option, and got the stainless battery fillers. I like heavy. Thank you again for the reply and I’ll see you around!
Yeah, I think literally the only problems people have with GMMK are the price point for the type of board that it is, and that it didn’t (still doesn’t?) use QMK/Vial, and the latter is also perception tied to the price point. The “Best Buy Tax” is a real thing, but that doesn’t make it a bad board at all, and especially not at thirty-five bucks!
I like Keebtalk. It’s a good group of people who enjoy the hobby in all its forms and welcome people who are just here to share knowledge and enthusiasm, and the “asynchronous” nature (i.e. it’s not Discord) give it a more thoughtful pace. It’s lively, but small enough to feel neighborly.
No GMMK Pro that I’m wanting to part with here, but as an appreciator of them you may enjoy mine as it’s… well different than any of the others you’ve probably seen so far. I’ve got a Glorious “Founders Edition” (Staff Only Version) that was gifted to me for some prototyping work that I did for them around the time of it’s release and the entire base is solid brass, making it weigh >12 pounds!
Waaaaaaa?! Mind is blown, that is so awesome!
12lbs?!..I heading back to the drawing board on how to make mine a boat anchor. Amazing, thank you for sharing!!
Are you a fan of the theremin? Here’s one I made a couple decades ago.
Honestly, can’t even say that I’ve ever messed with one before. (I also have basically negative musical talent otherwise.) The name came about as a joke with an old friend of mine.
I’m a fan of mechanical keyboard switches, if anything. Those are probably the only singular things that I can definitively say that for, lol
