Hello KeebTalk! Hello mechanical keyboards!

Hi!

New to the mechanical keyboard world. Started with a NuPhy Air75 V2 back in end of April because the recent Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop I purchased had it’s key travel reduced yet again - I’ve been through multiple generations and each time, they seem to be following the path of Apple with it’s super low keys.

That led to fiddling with different switches and keycaps on the Air75.

Then got the itch and wanted to try a non-low profile keyboard. I knew that I wanted either a 75% or TKL, I use the Fn keys for various things like refresh page, close window, etc. I didn’t know what my preference was in terms of layout, whether it be exploded or not. So why not try both?

I also wanted something that supported QMK/VIA as I found useful with playing around with remapping keys on the Air75 V2. Didn’t really use the wireless functionality and when I did, ran into issues others too have been experiencing with multiple keypresses or missing - QMK flashed a custom FW built by a community member.

After reading various forums online, r/mk, here, GH, various Discord servers, I settled on the Odin75 and the Sonnet. Built (or should I really say assembled) not long ago:

Like little under a month ago. I tried to make the two very similar for comparison - PC plate, oil king switches, same keycaps, same or similar foam layers.

Already, I think my preference is more towards the exploded 75% so have put in an order for a Mammoth 75 to replace the Sonnet as the two I’ll rotate between. The Sonnet will likely end up being my travel for work keyboard.

It’s quite an addictive hobby, as with most hobbies. I’ve already got my eyes on the Evolv (just missed the group by by a couple of months), the rumored Gok 7V R2, among others.

… and my Mammoth75 order came in today, mostly built, except for the knob:

Playing around with a silent build - EVA switch pads, Gateron Aliaz switches.
