Hi from a complete noob

Hi!

I answer to many names, but online I prefer to be addressed as Riley. I am based in the southeast USA.

As the child of a late 80s/early 90s techbro, I was privileged to grow up with early and regular exposure to computers. Despite that, I am basically a complete noob to the world of mechanical keyboards.

I didn’t really start dipping my toes into the DIY tech world until the late 2010s, when I basically entirely rebuilt the PC my spouse had handed down to me. For a good bit of time I was perfectly happy with my Corsair mechanical keyboard, but as time went on I found myself wanting a much more tactile typing experience than what the MX Browns offered. Blues were out of the question immediately because the clicking drives me insane, so I started doing some research…… it’s been gradually downhill from there.

I scooped up a basic hot-swap board from Keychron and sourced some RGB-friendly Cherry MX Clear switches to put in, and that’s been my daily driver at home for about a year now…. And once again I find myself being curious for an even MORE tactile switch than the clears! So I’m currently researching and getting switches to test out. I just picked up another keychron board, too (in my favorite color this time).

Outside of this, I have a boatload of other hobbies/interests, to include video games, anime, baking, knitting/crochet, sewing, cars, motorcycling, dressing up in a ridiculous animal costume and going to conventions, firearms, knives, being a plant parent, swimming and being in/near large bodies of water, and general debauchery.

Hope to learn a ton from all you lovely folks here :blush:

Welcome! It sounds like you’re a good candidate to fall down the rabbit holes of Alps or aftermarket Topre.

I’m trying to be at least a little careful with this. I already have so many expensive hobbies as it is
