How to clean GMK keycaps stained with pen ink?

Yesterday, I accidentally stained a couple of keycaps of my GMK “True Olivetti” set with blue pen ink. My right ring finger had inadvertently gotten a small smudge of blue ink and, after typing in a few sentences on my keyboard, I realized a couple of keycaps (namely “O” and “L”) were stained with blue ink as well.

I tried rubbing it off with a little bit of water, and it helped a bit, but there are still some traces of ink left. What would be the most effective way to leave my keycaps as new, without damaging them?

Maybe some mild soap and warm water would do the trick?

Alternatively, cleaning with a denture tab may help

I’ve used 70% isopropyl alcohol prep pads to clean marks off of my SP SA sets.

I was gonna say the same, but you beat me to it.

Yes as others said Isopropyl alcohol is fine with ABS.

But DON’T EVER use something that contains acetone like nail cleaner as it will definitely melt your caps: acetone is commonly used to glue ABS pieces together

Is that fountain pen ink?

Nope, the ink came from a Cross Ballpoint pen.

I think I’ll go the Isopropyl alcohol route, guys. Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I really appreciate it.

Me too, it’s like a cliffhanger ending right now OP… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I applied the Isopropyl Alcohol yesterday night. My keycaps now look like new! No signs of stains whatsoever.

Thanks so much to all of you, guys! You rock! :grinning:

Glad it worked!

Nice work! I was gonna suggest a magic eraser if the iso didn’t work

Ohhhh, so this is what an ISO set is.
