How to store/display all the things…?

Definitely peak late 80’s, I rocked one of these for many years. Even after the Discman came out since the early models skipped if you breathed too heavy while wearing it, let alone actually walked with it on LOL!

Man, talk about envy. There’s no way I was ever getting a “Walkman.” In our family it was always something crappy like Sanyo or JVC.

And it’s interesting for me to be on the other side of that now. I’m sure kids who had name brand stuff didn’t think much of it. It’s something you don’t even notice when you have money. My son certainly has no idea what it’s like to not be able to afford things that his peers have. I try my best to explain how privileged we are compared to others who are in need.

I think this has some ties into why I like vintage keyboards. We never had the money to own a personal computer when I was a kid. There’s definitely some sort of envy factor that pushes me to want buy vintage keyboards.

Same here. I actually had an off-brand version of the Sony Sports Walkman myself as the Sony tax back then was pretty high (for a kid anyway). It ended up being a really nice one though and I wish I knew who made it.

I’ve found my kids don’t seem to express preference for brands like I did as a kid. I’m thinking it may be the generation, but also that they’ve never seen much in the way of advertising since we haven’t had cable or broadcast television since they were born.

Nowadays, kids are advertised to on Instagram posted by dubious resellers slinging cheap garbage from China at outrageous markup.

At least in my generation, companies had to create elaborate cartoons to sell their line of cheap garbage from China. A glorious half hour of pure marketing, with tie-in figures, with UPC’s that you could send in for extra mail-away figures. What at time to be alive.

I grew up middle class, but my parents were very conservative with money. Luckily, I had three older brothers (like 16 to 20 years older) who all had jobs and loved spoiling me with cool stuff. They also blew up some of my toys with m-80’s, so it was a trade-off of sorts.

So now that I have access to a 3D printer and a laser cutter, I’m re-thinking the entire setup :face_with_spiral_eyes: well, sort of…

I am trying to adapt the keycap shelf above to 33cm x 35cm x 15cm (wxdxh)…and then I need to split it, because it otherwise won’t fit into the printer, ahem. So, any hot tips on how to achieve this? I’ve manage to change the shelf width, but when I change the depth, the rows also change width, and I’d rather add rows…

Alternatively, I think I could fit 3 10cm wide and 35cm long trays next to each other on one shelf.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea how to either manipulate an existing design, or create a new one. What kind of tutorial should I be looking for?

Edit: I’ve signed up for Tinkercad…
