MTNU Electronic Control is inspired by the Electronic Control Systems T-03 display terminal, an obscure Australian system designed to control theatrical lighting, circa 1977. Few were made, and even fewer survive to this day. Were it not for a… graphic restoration video that went viral a few years ago, almost no one would know about or remember this system today.

This will be PBT doubleshot, in GMK’s stock XP3 red, X2B grey, and XW1 white.

Vendors, dates, and pricing TBD.

My past sets have been throwback works of monumental excess, with lots of custom legends, and extensive coverage for layouts used by maybe three people globally. SA History of Violets sold in eleven different kits! Not this time. Electronic Control is a simple monokit for 2025. What does that mean?

  • No child kits!
  • No new weird legend molds!
  • Only stock colors!

This is very much meant to be a budget set to try to keep the price to whatever minimum is possible with tariffs and inflation being what they are today.

Here’s the current version of the kitting:

And here’s a potential slight expansion to include accents and Minivan coverage:

If you want accents or basic 40s support, please indicate such in the feedback form. Vendors are skittish about bigger sets with higher prices, so including those frills is going to require some evidence there’s support for it.

I’m including UK ISO because I do hope to have a UK vendor, and 6u space because that doesn’t seem like a huge expense. Beyond that, there’s little more that could be pared down.

Finally, enjoy some more board renders:

I vote for accents!

I’m still disappointed I couldn’t include the full novelty kit that Switchbox.studios originally designed for this, but accent keys feel like a feasible budget compromise. I’m saving his industrial warning novelties for a future set, because those deserve to get made somehow.

  1. Looks great. MTNU is a good choice here.
  2. The era and country of origin remind me of the one keyboard voted “most likely get keeb people murdered if the original system’s fans found us using one.” Apparently it’s clicky (possibly due to solenoid or speaker) and quite nice.

Starting to get enough responses to the kitting questions to see trends emerge. Only 25% of respondents so far want 40’s support to be included, while 65% want yellow accents. Of those, 62% want red legends on them.

Working on some new renders with the yellow accents, since it seems people would like those, going on the feedback so far.

KBDFans has added Electronic Control to their own IC page! Hopefully this will get more eyes on it from a region that doesn’t typically use GeekHack much, and that I haven’t had a chance to network and form ties with previously.

If you’re registered on their site, you can add yourself to the waitlist, which acts as a vote in favor for it.
