(IC) KŌBŌ ISSHI — Exploring Stone as a 65% Keyboard

Hello everyone,

What began as a simple curiosity with stone slowly evolved into a two-year obsession.

Today, I’m proud to present the KOSANJI case — a 65% exploration into marble as a keyboard case.

KOSANJI will be available in two stone variants: Carrara White and India Green.

Specifications

The case is designed around a 65% layout and is compatible with most 65% PCBs and plates, including KBDfans’ DZ65 and YMDK’s YMD-65% ZJ68.

The dimensions are 340 × 145 mm, with a 6° typing angle and an approximate 20 mm front height. The case uses a tray-mount structure and weighs around 2.0 kg, depending on the individual piece of stone.

Each case is polished and sealed for protection, durability, and a smooth desk-ready finish.

The standoffs are threaded screw-in standoffs, meaning they can be screwed in or removed for assembly and maintenance.

The top design features a raised forehead and a functional pen groove, giving the case a sense of balance while also adding a practical detail.

Each KOSANJI case is shaped from a single block of marble. Because of the natural variations in grain and veining, every case will be visually unique.

Stone Variants

Carrara White
A classic Italian marble with soft grey veining on a clean white base. Refined, subtle, and timeless.

India Green
A darker, more textured stone with deep forest tones and mineral complexity. Visually striking, but still balanced.

Inspiration

I have always admired the Japanese approach to craft — treating tools with intention, allowing materials to guide the process, and accepting that refinement takes time.

Working with stone forced that mindset. It does not bend easily to direction. It reacts, resists, and asks for patience. Precision meets unpredictability, which became both the challenge and the appeal of the project.

Key Information

The initial run will be limited to 50 Carrara White and 50 India Green cases.

Additional units may be produced if demand exceeds the initial allocation.

Pricing will be $249 USD for both Carrara White and India Green.

Shipping will be $50 USD. I am based in Thailand, and due to the weight of the case, shipping is costly. That said, I will do my best to absorb anything above the $50 charge within reasonable limits.

The estimated production lead time is 90 days from the close of the GB.

Each order will include:

1 × 65% marble case
1 × aluminium USB port
4 × self-adhesive silicone rubber feet
Threaded screw-in standoffs

If you have any questions, thoughts, or feedback, I would love to hear them. For more images or to mark your interest, kindly let me know below in the comments and I will DM you the GeekHack thread with more images as well as the IC link which i’m not able to post here. :frowning:

Thank you for reading this far. Truly.

Hey! I saw your message on Geekhack and Reddit as well. I love custom boards made of unique materials.

The green one looks especially beautiful to me. I’d love to pair it with darker keycaps. I own a 60% marble keyboard that is of similar design with removable standoffs. I like it a lot. The marble is exceptional at absorbing sound waves.

The only thing I see of concern is the small risers on the bottom. I’d prefer to not have them, as they detract from the overall slab design of the board. I’m guessing you added them to get another degree or two of slope? Perhaps you could remove them and offer an option to add small screw in feet to match the hardware around the USB cutout?

Small world! I actually reached out to you privately on Geekhack becuase I saw you were keen on one 5-6 years ago on a different IC.

No issues on the risers. I’m sure we can come up with something that will work perfectly! Easiest version will be just having it flat on the bottom (see bottom of triangle below) as if no material had been removed? Another option would be feet, but we have to be careful due the composition of the material that we don’t crack/damage it. Though i’m confident we can do something really nice. We can discuss on Discord and bounce some ideas when ever :+1:
