If you want to waste your time, do it here (pt. 2)

Y’all got any switches that I might like, don’t hate you clicked on this topic.
Anyways I like linear switches, I currently use the steelseries omnipoint 2.0 switches, and I really enjoy them although I find that they are too light. So y’all got any maybe tactile? Switches that are really smooth also I HATE tactile switches with a really small bump, and I’ve tried holy pandas but they are wayyyy to loud and actually I don’t mind the tactility but it’s a bit to jittery for me

Slow work evening, I’ve got some time to waste…

Some switches I recommend trying if you get the chance:

  • Gateron Smoothie Silvers - might be the smoothest no-effort gaming-focused switch I know of; these are short-travel, fast-actuating, factory-lubed linears done right. They are weighted about the same as the Omnipoints, but should be a good point of comparison. The non-silver version has longer travel, standard actuation, and is a little heavier - so if you want something with a touch more weight they might be the way to go. IMO, either version represents the current best in factory lubing for the time being.

  • TTC Silent Bluish Whites -or- Kailh Silent Whale Islets - these aren’t identical but are similar enough that I recommend them together. If dust resistance is more important go with the Kailhs, otherwise I think the TTCs tend to be cheaper. Both of these are medium-strong tactiles with a bump not too dissimilar from Holy Pandas, but with dampened top and bottom-out impacts, totally eliminating any harsh, loud sounds and feels. They both make what I find to be a pleasant “thud” noise while being plenty quiet for the office and providing satisfying feedback. The Kailhs have a different name on almost every site that sells them, but “Whale” is pretty much always in the title; it’s the blue ones with a translucent brown stem.

  • Invokeys Black Sesames - these are also factory-lubed linears done well, but they are a different kind of experience vs the Smoothies: they are heavier in spring weight and make a much deeper sound. The lubing is good but not quite as good as Gateron’s recent offerings. Check these out if you want to try something a bit heavier without going to extremes.

  • “Roller” switches - examples include KBDfans Rollers and WS Pearls; these have little ball bearings inside. They are super smooth from the factory and remarkably stable with next-to-no wobble. They’re so on-rails they can even help stabilized keys like Shift and Space feel better. I won’t say they’re for everybody or every build, but very much worth a try. Extra useful if you’re a bit OCD and want all your keys as lined-up as they can be.

  • Moyu Studio Bettys - if you can find them. Made by Haimu but out of production. Basically my favorite non-dampened tactile, and one I wish everyone could try. Very snappy, short-travel, and surprisingly clean. Travel is almost all bump, and they’re crisp without being harsh. I love these and I wish I had more than one set.

  • Moondrop Tessence - another tactile by Haimu, these are a little easier to find than Bettys. I don’t like them as much and I also think subsequent runs after the first aren’t as good or clean, but still plenty worth trying. They have a bit more travel than Bettys and aren’t as index-y (don’t snap between on/off in such a light-switch way) but they have the same tasty bottom-out. When tuned-up I think these are very satisfying to use, especially with light / thin keycaps like DCS or Tai-Hao.

  • Ajazz Diced Fruit Kiwis - not nearly the factory-clean performance as most of the rest of these, they’re a bit noisy from the box, but in lieu of Bettys they’re a great way to try the short-travel, index-y tactile style. Bonus points for being inexpensive and easy to find. I think they’re fun and interesting. They make me yearn for Bettys instead when I use them, but I still recommend them since, well - they’re available and Bettys aren’t. I have a full review of them here. I think they might fit into the “jittery” category alongside Holy Pandas, but do offer a pretty unique experience in comparison.
