I’ve been messing around with different switches, And i’m starting to like the Glorious Panda switch with their heavy tactile bump. But the price point of basically a dollar a switch is off putting.
I don’t know about the current price, but the tecsee purple panda is pretty close in terms of feel.
I made a board with cheap Aliexpress “Fauxly Pandas” that feel about right, heavy tactiles with an early noticeable bump. Only thing is I put them in an aluminum plate with literally no give at all, so until I get around to designing an entirely new case, i won’t know how much of the ridiculously harsh bottom-out is due to the switches, but I suspect it’s 99% the mounting.
MMD Princess V2 is another possibility.
Yea. Kinda experienced the same in a metal plate where they are literally forced in (i think i screwed up installing some).
I have made two boards with what I called a “captive plate,” where the 3D prints are 2-piece and U-shaped with a channel for the plate. This one was the first. Aluminum TKL-like, and so snug the print had to be glued back together when it started to delaminate. PLA plastic is also a pretty rigid plastic in the short term, so yeah, this one’s a finger-killer. The second captive plate design feels much better, using a softer plate material and designing in a little slop. The other two TKL-likes with those same plates also feel better, one a sandwich case with Box Navy, the other a top-mount with lubed browns. Keyboards are weird. ![]()
