I know the severance keyboards have been discussed before, but I love that they were designed specially for the show without Escape, Control, or Alt because the “innies” of the show have no escape, control, or alternative.
That’s a great detail! Hadn’t noticed that. Also, super depressing…
Can we also agree that, intended by the set designers or not, full-cross navigation arrows are also a form of torture?
I actually don’t mind arrows like that myself. On my 60%s I always set the HHKB arrows on my 2nd layer. Then I’ve even ran my Frog 8K with the straight up full cross arrows. It’s definitely not the most intuitive due to the inverted T style arrows being the standard, but the full cross isn’t so bad once you get used it.
There is no escape, we have lost all control, and yet there is no alternative (I couldn’t find a good alternative)
Now that is some SERIOUS turtle-neck.
Ran across this old trailer for the VHS release of the original Tron. I think few, if any, of these glyphs were used on DSA Lightcycle. Anybody know if they’re anything more than VFX made for the trailer?
Funky-layout thing vaguely resembling a Model M from the demo for Karma: The Dark World
Control keys notably absent, maaybe a reference to the show Severance?
Maybe but Tab and one (but only one?) Alt is also missing.
I was watching a video on a collection of Red Dwarf props. If you don’t know it, Red Dwarf was a British, Low Budget, Sci-fi Comedy. It ran from 1988 to 1999, then came back in 2009 and ran to 2020. Being low budget, most of the props are made from what they could lay their hands on.
In the video there’s a good shot of one of the consoles used in the show. There’s actually two keyboards here, but the one on the top caught my eye the most. Largely because the key layout is rather unique, but also because it’s kind of a cool looking keyboard.
The one below looks almost like the keys were backlit, and are reminiscent of something from a CNC Machine HMI.
If you know where either of these two are from, I’d love to learn about them.
Some of the legends and sizes on the top one make me think of a BBC Master, but there’s more terminal stuff going on, and of course the numpad is too close and the “f” row is all bonkers. The weathering looks very “set designer” so I’m wondering if they started as BOW caps and they’re glued in place. Did the video show them pressing any keys?
I watched Red Dwarf so long ago I don’t even remember this piece, but at least in this video no one attempted to push any keys. Randomly glued keys certainly would explain the layout though.
So that’s where the “Wings Stay On” button is.
That’s super cool. I don’t recall having seen that kind of sculpting/beveling on the case of
an XT style board.
