KeebMonkey 1800 v2
It must be really validating to see your design used in sci-fi or futuristic type shows ![]()
“I knew I was on to something!”
Haha nice find.
This review cracked me up for some reason
And is he 1 finger pecking in that scene? lol
Is the show any good? I’ve seen mixed reviews but haven’t tried watching any of it yet.
If you are highly-invested in the Alien/Aliens/Isolation canon, then don’t watch it.
Haha thanks, that’s all I needed to know ![]()
Not able to take a photo since I was in the theater, but one of the main characters in Tron: Ares was typing on an Ergodox EZ in one scene.
Look at it this way: it’s not a show about Aliens, it’s a show with Aliens. If you’re good with the latter, then I’d say it’s not so bad.
I’ll keep an eye out for it if and when I see it. ![]()
How would you say it compared to Andor, if you’ve seen it? I quite liked that one, and it sounds like there may an element of similarity due to using the setting to enrich the story rather than trodding the same thematic ground. I do think Andor is a bit overpraised due to the paucity of really solid scripts for genre TV generally, and Star Wars in particular, but if you’re a certain type of Star Wars fan, it’s manna from heaven.
I think we’re absolutely on the same page. ![]()
I think the approach the writers took on Alien: Earth isn’t much different than what they did with Andor.
Of course, in many ways the two shows can’t be directly compared (Andor, for example, is in full continuity with the Star Wars universe), but there are some similarities: for example, they are both prequels but use the general setting to tell “secondary” stories, giving incredible depth to the main plots.
My impression is this: just as Andor tells the story of the beginnings of the rebellion (and in the end you can’t help but root for the rebels), Alien: Earth tells the story of the corporations (and not only), which can help understand the complicated relationship between them and Ripley - as well as her aversion to androids.
My take: Andor has a lot of depth, fantastic acting from top of the list actors, and good writing. Alien Earth had zero depth as nothing is actually explored properly, writing is poor (sometimes at the level of a fanfic) and actors either were given really bad material or are not doing much effort. I wouldnt compare these really they are not in the same league. (disclaimer i’m not specifically a fan of Star Wars or Alien, I love sci fi in general). Alien Earth had a lot of potential for exploring typically cyberpunk themes but barely brushed the surface and fizzled with poor writing. I am trying to keep high hopes for the upcoming Neuromancer series, but disillusion is strong with Netflix handling of originally good IP (looking at you The Witcher..).

Just to close the spots for the first season in a worthy manner.

During a rewatch to prepare for the final (
) season…
Okay, that’s interesting. It looks like somebody simply lopped the numpad off an Amiga 1000 board, but in a quick search I don’t see where that was a normal model. The 600 had a similar format, but a later layout. I’m sure I’m overlooking something, but hopefully someone knows the deal here.
The case is certainly not an Amiga keyboard, they probably used another Mitsumi keyboard with Amiga caps ?
OK that’s Stranger Things but in this case there is no mistery at all: it’s a common Amiga 1000 keyboard. ![]()
The thing is, the shot simply cuts off the numpad, but if you look closely you can see the shadow of the keys on the right.
I was seriously impressed that someone would mod the case that well for no apparent reason. ![]()
