Legal Concerns producing switch modifications

I’ve been measuring and modeling the stem of Kailh choc switches to produce a modified version with an MX style stem on top. I’m curious if anyone here has ventured into making a direct replacement part like this for a switch. If this was an MX knockoff switch I wouldn’t really be concerned as that seems to be fair game. I know the Choc is similar to the ML switch but it’s design and operation seems different enough that Kaihua/Kailh may have something about it patented and yet I can’t find anything at the moment to determine which part of the switch is patented or under some form of intellectual property protection. Has anyone dealt with this before? My prime concern is there is nothing special about the design or what I feel to be significantly different from the original switch stem.
