Nifty_turing, checking in

Howdy. This is nifty_turing checking in as the FAQ says to do an intro.

I’ve been doing Ops and InfoSec for a LONG time and I’ve always been a huge fan of the Thinkpad keyboards to the point where I if work wants me to pick a laptop I will take a lower spec Lenovo over anything else hands-down every time. A combination of the general feel of Thinkpad keyboards and the presence of a Trackpoint because, man, do I dislike mice.

For many years I didn’t know why I liked Thinkpad keyboards – didn’t think about it much – I just knew that was home. Over the last six months my old wireless Thinkpad Compact keyboards have started to break down and, since I’m not on the road much these days, I’ve been migrating those to back-up duty on tablets and migrating to sk-8855s on workstations.

And that’s where I’m running into issues and that’s why I’m here. I’ll explain in another thread later.

Outside of keyboards – ngl, it still feels a little weird to be joining a forum on the topic  – motorcycles, boxing, hockey, things that go boom, smoking my own meat, making my own bread/pizza crusts/pasta from ancient grains.

Ok, let’s talk kbs.

Welcome to the site man! I think we got some people here that can help you find what you’re looking for. A trackpoint isn’t unheard of with custom KBs, but you see them much more in the smaller split ergonomic KBs than in more traditional form factor KBs. There have been a few over the years (Tex KBs has done a few), but it’s not a super popular feature & only 1 custom keycap set ever had the keys to go around a trackpoint is the reasons you don’t see it much in that part of the hobby.

I’m sure some people with more experience in custom KBs with a trackpoint will chime in soon. Although I will post some of the readily available options I know about when I get a chance later. Anyways, good look finding what you’re looking for!
