Just finished this build so I figured I’d take a quick (poorly lit) pic.

Space80 in the Robocop colorway

  • PC plate
  • PCB thin foam sheet (no foam otherwise)
  • Gat Oil Kings (205g0 on stems, 105 on springs)
  • TX Stabs (205g0 on sliders, 206g2 on wires)
  • GMK MoDo Mist

It has a little flex to it so the typing experience is soft but not overly bouncy.

The Oil Kings are my new favorite linear hands down – they sound simultaneously deep and poppy, and the 65g 20mm spring is a perfect slow curve spring for them.

Holy shit TX stabs! They were so easy to tune and sound/feel fantastic. They are like pre-retooled GMK stabs with larger diameter wires, smoother surfaces, and no clipping necessary. They also have looser tolerances than the Staebies stabs which in my experience are a bind fest. They would easily be my go-to if they were readily available.

2 years have now passed and now I made version 2 of my G75! I dropped the LED indicators in favor of an “F13” and modified the weight. It’s cerakoted in Light Sand but I’m thinking of redoing it to a more white~ish color to match GMK 9009. I haven’t built this yet and just want to know what it would look like with the keyset on. I’m planning to use clickiez.

Dolch R5 with the custom teal accents on my Meridian. :man_cook:

I just used staebies for the first time and one of my 2u keys won’t return. First time I have had that happen with a stabilizer. I haven’t opened up the board to figure out why yet, but I guys I might have overlubed and gummed things up.

I have two sets of tx stabilizers on the way and am looking forward to giving them a try.

Unfortunately, I have to desolder a Meridian to switch out the Staebies stabs. I did use BDZ on the wires, but it was only a skin coat which wouldn’t even have been enough for typical stabilizers. The odd thing is that if I back out the screws a quarter turn, all of the binding goes away (of course that introduces unacceptable rattle so I can’t roll with them like that). It makes me think that they are twisting when tightened or something, and the tolerances are too tight to counter it. Also I’ve tried two separate GMK sets’ 2u caps and it happens on both – I would assume that it’s not a cap warping issue.

The designer of the GHS RAR returns with a beautiful classic board of his own

Hmmmm. I guess I might have overtightened as well, even though I tightened less than I usually do with stabilizers. I will give that a try and see if I can loosen the screw off without them becoming rattly.

Good luck. I haven’t been successful. I even tried to pin them in place while screwing in, but to no avail.

Took a chance on IFK Nature Witch. So close to being great. The legends are much better this round, but the 1.75u keys must have a mold problem because they are all so loose they are ready to fall off. Will have to tighten them up with some plastic wrap on the stem or something.

What did I expect from TKC + IFK? ::man_shrugging:

Might I recommend this instead?

A year or so ago I discovered that I’d actually broken some cap stems by using a bit too much plastic wrap; so far I’ve found the thread tape a lot more forgiving. It’s also more malleable; maybe a little more delicate to work with but stays in place a bit better and easier to shape around things. I find the stuff all but indispensable - it’s great for cap stems that are a little too big, or switch / stab stems that are a little too small - and you can even use it to help mitigate stab tick.

and… It comes in handy if you need to change a shower head!

Gonna need some info on stab ticking modification…!

The main thing PTFE tape is good for in terms of stab tick is wrapping the wires; it’s like the shrink wrap mod but maybe more forgiving, depending on what kind of tolerances your stabs have. You can use it on the ends for the stems, and closer to the bends for the clips.

It’s easier to have a thinner layer than with heat-shrink, but it’s also more delicate and challenging to apply. Starting with clean, dry wires is a must as there’s no adhesive on the stuff - but as long as nothing scrapes it off it should stay in place once wrapped.

Awesome shot!

Also, Noire looks straight up WOB in every picture I’ve seen  How close is it IRL?

OOF that is gorgeous. i was so close to going in on noire but decided my keyset to keyboard ratio was getting out of hand.

It’s close. Cream on black instead of white on black. I’ll put up a comparison shot in a bit
