Keys ESC, TAB, CAPS, LSHIFT, LCTRL not functioning. When I press any of these keys, all the rest of the keys on their row gets triggered as well. I’m looking to buy a new mech keyboard but wanted to see if this still can be fixed. Thank you. Video link of the issue (remove the spaces): https: //imgur. com/a/kha9VX3
if you were already planning on potentially getting a new keyboard, I’d say open this one up and see what the issue is.
It looks like an entire row is going off, which would indicate a short. Check inside to see if there is a random bit of metal lying around touching something that it shouldn’t.
Definitely seems like an issue with a single column of the matrix. For whatever reason, your board can’t figure out to keep from firing the entire row associated with that key’s column. It could be an issue with diodes or the microcontroller and be beyond easy repair. There are a couple of things to try before giving up, though.
Try factory reset. If it’s a “regular” K6, holding Fn1, Z, and J will do it. Most boards will have some sort of similar concept. You’ve already dissembled some, so as mentioned, see of you can find a physical short or visible damage that you might be able to fix, potentially including any other metal parts of the keyboard. Remove the switches if the board is hot swap or you’re good with desoldering. If it is hot swap, try leaving one switch at a time from that column out and retest to rule out switch or socket issues (though this feels a little different, it’s worth trying). Barring anything else, try reflashing the firmware. Finally, replacing the diodes on those five keys would be a desperate last ditch thing to try (soldering again), but it might help.
