SPD40 & SPD60 wireless 40%/60% QMK-compatible keyboards available

I have two new keyboard designs I’ve made available on my site, a 40% wireless keyboard and a 60%. Both use receiver-base, QMK-programmable USB receivers for lower latency and better battery life than any DIY bluetooth keyboard solution.

Here are the links for the two keyboards:

SPD40

SPD60

Here’s a description for the SPD40. Both the SPD40 & SPD60 are very similar in terms of the way they operate, the SPD60 has more keys available. Both are relatively narrow 12U designs. The SPD40 requires MX switches and stabilizers, whereas the SPD60 has all keys widths <=2U so no stabilizers are necessary. This also makes the SPD60 compatible with MX, Choc V1, and Choc V2 switches.

Note: the ?/ and Function key of both keyboards can be swapped.

The SPD40 keyboard is a wireless, QMK-compatible keyboard that can use Cherry MX, or Kailh Low Profile Choc switches.

SPD40 was designed with ergonomics in mind. It is powered by a coin cell battery and is capable of lasting for 4-5 months before replacement. This keyboard is fully programmable. It features an ON/OFF switch for power saving purposes and will prevent errant keypresses if you choose to travel with it.

The SPD40 is a fully programmable 40 percent keyboard. These boards will come pre-programmed with the default keymaps, however you may download the QMK files and make whatever changes you can think of to customize the keyboard’s layout.

This keyboard is sold as a kit. You will receive a partially assembled keyboard with a black switch plate, diodes, a bottom protector plate, mounting hardware, and a pre-programmed micro-USB receiver. Simply choose the variety of switches you want to use, solder the switches and diodes, insert the batteries, and you have a working wireless keyboard.

Links to the QMK firmware for these keyboards can be found on the individual product pages.

I also have extras for the ergonomic Zygote keyboard, which is available here.

Are there no alternate bottom row layouts on the 60?

In order to maintain compatibility with the three different switch types, there are no alternate bottom row layouts for the SPD60.

Is the SPD40 compatible with Choc V2? I have a bunch and need a project.

This looks pretty compelling. Any plans to make a high profile case? Guess I could just have one printed.

The ones on my site are, but only kind of. The footprints fit, but it was designed to be used with stabilizers so the larger >2U keys aren’t optimal. I have a variant that switches out the 2.25U+2.75U keys for a 2U spacebar, if you want one let me know. I have other macropads, the Zygote keyboard, the Centromere LP, and the SPD60 that all support Choc V2 switches.

I ordered one of these over 6 weeks ago and haven’t gotten any order status updates. Very disappointing.

That’s because the updates have been on Reddit. Between the holidays, moving, and a new job the lead time was a little longer than anticipated.
