System76 Open Source Hotswap Mechanical Keyboard

I simply mean that everyone involved in the original situation has said what they needed to say on it, and that additional speculation as to all of our motives and thoughts behind our comments isn’t seeming to yield any new lessons in my opinion, it should certainly stay visible though.

Wow I was gone for like two weeks and was not expecting this to be the thread with hundreds of replies lol.

When I first saw this I said “what were they thinking”, but now that I’ve heard what they were thinking I actually do get what the idea was here, and I think it is actually pretty cool and very well executed. I will probably add it to my shortlist of boards to recommend to people.

I got what you meant- but the thread isn’t really just about how the situation blew up, but also about the board in general. What do you do about that conversation? The board itself is worthy of conversation outside of the controversy and there are things to be learned- so what do you do? Make another thread for that?

I can tell you what I think about this!

I think it would definitely fit on a 65% KEEBMAT!

Best comment I read on this thread and the most honest!
And for people saying this community isn’t toxic just shows the real problem in this community.
People got so used to leave there super biased criticism and don’t even think about it really much, but this leads always to stagnation in any Society.
I mean just read the first 15 or 20 comments on this thread and tell me it doesn’t feel a little like bullying the new nerdy kid in school to you…
And that’s sad irony if you really think about it.
And I don’t say all of the community is like that but I will say that some of those should’t be the voice of this community like they are.

Completely agree. Was really disappointed to see the reactions in this thread. There are plenty of new keyboards experimenting with aesthetics, acoustics, and feel, but it’s rare to see a keyboard experiment with functionality. It’s a shame that this attempt at something actually unique was just met with derision.

While there is plenty I dislike about the board aesthetically, I love the bottom-row layout. There are very few options for hotswap, split-space bottom rows in a 60%+ form factor. Functionally speaking, this bottom row is ideal for me. The spacebars are no longer than required which means that the keys to the left and right are easily accessible with your thumbs. Perfect for layer keys.

I get that in the mechkeys scene we often fixate on aesthetics, feel, and sound, but for someone who also programs all day, I really hope we continue to see companies continue to experiment with new layouts for improved functionality like this.
