Back story
Back in June, we flew to Taipei for Computex for part business trip, part creative mission. We knew we wanted to build our own Hall-Effect keyboard, but at the time, the idea was more of a sketch than a plan.
Then came one of those meetings that changed the trajectory. We sat down with our longtime partners at Keychron, shared the concept, and by the end of the conversation, we were officially teaming up to make it happen.
Our Objective
Create a Hall-Effect keyboard that delivers on serious performance, offers real value, and still carries our ONEofZERO DNA.
Key Product Requirements
- Must feature state of the art Hall-Effect Tech
- Must be compatible with the most popular switches (KS-20 / North-pole facing)
- Must feel amazing for both gaming and typing
- Must feature true gasket mounting for dampened feel and sound profile
- Must feature modular customization
- Must be affordable and provide value
The Design Journey
We landed on a 75% layout with a rotary knob for a compact, efficient, and clean layout. Using the classic Keychron V1 as a starting point, we developed a new mold that turned it into a true gasket-mount case.
Our signature design implementation however was our deliberate use of silicone throughout the keyboard. That’s why it’s called Si75-HE (“Si” for silicone, “HE” for Hall-Effect). We used silicone strategically throughout the build.
- Gasket strips for mounting
- Dampening layer for enhanced sound profile
- External touch points like the rotary knob and height adjustable feet
We opted to remove the traditional flip down feet all together and instead went with a friction fit implementation. The reason for this being that when the flip down feet can actually rattle and add to resonance in the case, so this swap out removes that rattle and adds another point where silicone can work as a vibration sink to help the overall sound profile of the board.
The case itself uses frosted clear ABS plastic, top and bottom. It’s not a “luxury” material, but it gives the board a unique translucent look where subtle pops of color from the silicone peek through. Plus, it helps keep costs reasonable — so more people can enjoy what we’ve built. (And, personally, I’m a sucker for how a plastic board sounds.)
Launch
We’re on track to launch mid-November, with stock arriving late November. Our golden sample arrives next week, and if all checks out, mass production begins immediately.
At this moment we have a pre-launch page and over the coming days and weeks we will be dropping more and more details and videos about the product. We invite you to come check out the page to get a first glimpse of the product and subscribe to our newsletter to get updates and a special pre-order offer that will be made available once the pre-order phase officially launches.
Kind regards
Michael - ONEofZERO
