What are you waiting for?

Yes

Haha. I knew it!

I am staring to recognize your design language rather well

I have a question: who does the PCB design of all of your boards ?

Currently I am waiting on a Neo Ergo, Geonworks F18Xv2, Plywrks Spyder, GMK Griseann 2, DCS Red Alert, KKB Skidata Neo child kits (fingers crossed the color matching is decently close to GMK Skiidata), & XMI Vintage Support 2. Really looking forward to my Neo Ergo! I wasn’t planning on getting one, but I got to try a few out at the last two meetups I was at & they made a strong enough impression that I caved in & ordered one  :man_shrugging:

I love mine!

I’m currently waiting on the Supermassive from MVKB. Been following along with the progress on Discord. Bummed it missed the originally hoped for window and that it probably won’t ship until end of the year or next year, but such is life. Super excited for it, even though I have no idea what switches or keycaps I’ll go with.

  • Oddvent calendar (woo!)
  • Buncha BFCM goodies from NovelKeys; boards, caps, the works
  • DK Tess65
  • URSA Minicom
  • Shark67 (Vala, already delayed a couple times, lookin’ pretty iffy :grimacing:)
  • CAPS Heavy Industry Dark (at this point I leave it on the list as a meme; if I ever get my caps I’ll play Duke Nukem: Forever while wearing a Half Life 3 tshirt in celebration)

I also have things I’m happily waiting for and things I’m not happily waiting for…

  • DCS SMRT
  • DCS LAM Alert
  • DCS Intro Wob and Beige
  • GMK Rouge r2 through Kono
  • Kara SEQ 2 through Rama
  • PC KL-90 through Kiko’s Lab - this GB is WILD. If you joined a KL-90 or Ellora65 group buy, don’t have your board, and aren’t in the Kiko’s Lab discord it’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but we might be getting things? Each project has it’s own story - PC KL-90 cases have been finished and sitting in a DDS warehouse for 2 years. DDS was basically selling them off a couple weeks ago, and then earlier this week someone named Ryan took over the project through Kiko’s discord account and DDS refunded and didn’t ship the cases (I think - at least for me), so we’ll see.

I’m super on the DCS train obviously. I’m also probably on the SA train when the new violet set and Welles set come out!

Right now I am waiting for
A bunch of switches I ordered during BF/CM (BSUN Wave, HMX Snow Crash, MX2A browns, KF Bigwig, & KF Cooley)
2 jars of 206 G0 from Dangkeebs (so glad I found someone selling this again, easily my fav stab lube!)
A hard case for the FLX Virgo to use for my LZ erGhost
A straight black flemo cable & a bunch of PCB flex cut stoppers from Ordinary Labs
All the DCS WoB sets from SP’s BF/CM sale
GMK Carbon R3 with a bunch of it’s child kits
DCS Red Alert
DCS SMRT
Vitkus VK-94
Geonworks F18X v2
Spyder TKL
A ton of different artisans I have won recently.

I’m sure some other things I have forgotten about, but if I forgot about them that means they’re coming from very reliable vendors. Super excited to be getting the listed stuff. Although considering I have officially ran out of storage space in my hangout room. I have to get on building/buying shelving & diving back into the pile to reorganize my KBs, caps, & supplies sooner than later. Which I am not particularly looking forward to… :face_with_peeking_eye:

I missed the initial offering for GMK Evil Dolch but got in on the Extras. I ordered:
Base Kit, Accents, Novelties, Space bars and Shine throughs.

Still waiting on a replacement PCB from Daring Run for my DR-70F but looks like its at least in the US with a carrier. Hope to have it in the next few days.

Apart from those, I don’t have anything on order and not likely to grab anything else this year. There seems to be some really sweet caps and boards coming down the pipeline next year, so I’ll start saving for those.

Oh, I totally forgot I’m waiting for a Matrix Gator and Ron badges - out for delivery!
And some 3rd party upgrade goodies for my Corsa and Navi…
And a Vault35-mfr2…
And two Petrichors but one is a work keeb for my partner…(yikes, it’s a good thing I’m done buying for the year?)

I guess it’s possible that I forgot something, but as best as I can recollect, the only item I have purchased and still haven’t received (that wasn’t part of an exit scam) is the Seneca from Norbauer. It’s a big one, eh? Not a switch, keycap, or even accessory in the pipeline. Should this be the last keyboard item?? :scream:

I realize this question is only so serious in context, but it’s something I’ve thought about, and I’m sure we’re not alone. Of course only you can answer this - and each individual can only answer similar questions for themselves - but I’ll be glad to share my own through process on it recently as someone who has collected more than their fair share of keyboard accoutrements;

At the peak of my collecting, I’d take just about any chance to pick up a new switch if it had something about it that didn’t exactly match something else in my collection, or if I was simply curious about some aspect of it. I’d pick up a new keyset if it revolved around colors I like or came in a profile I hadn’t tried before. Resultant from that, I have a literal wall of switches and shelves of keysets - the vast majority of which I will never use.

I honed-in on a couple keyboard form-factors that I liked, but really explored various mounting styles and materials there for a while.

These days I buy almost nothing - unless it really speaks to me on one of a few levels:

  • For switches, if they are especially unusual, fitting into rare or under-served categories that I have specific high interest in - or if they fit into a category I know I love and are also of reported excellent quality.

Examples: A.) Gateron Type R - one of my favorite frankenswitches is one that’s essentially all bump and no linear travel, and the Type R is the first commercial swith I know of that’s explicitly set-out to serve that niche. B.) KBDFans Rollers - a smooth, medium-weight linear with exceptional stability - a quality I value highly.

  • For keysets, aside from meeting minimum standards of quality, I need them to either specifically fit-into a build I’m already planning or an under-served colorway I already intend to collect. Aside from that, if they are especially pleasing to my sensibilities and fit into a colorway and/or theme I especially appreciate and if there’s currently headroom in my budget.

Examples: A.) GMK CYL Gold & Black - I’ve specifically been looking for a high quality gold-on-black set in a familiar profile, and for years on-end now. B.) GMK CYL Chladni - I’ve been intrigued with Chladni patterns since I learned about them, and I love burgundy.

  • As far as keyboards go, I genuinely have more than I’ll ever need, and filling every category I think I’ll ever utilize. There is a small chance I’ll pick up an additional copy or similar product to one I already know and love in another color to go with a keyset I already own and want to utilize, or to serve as a backup to one I use a lot (like something from QK / Neo) - but probably not. For someone who hasn’t collected so extensively, hold-out for something that really speaks to your sensibilities and/or use-case.

  • Outside of this, gift cards. When folks aren’t sure what to get me for holidays or my birthday, I ask for gift cards from my favorite vendors - and these I use as opportunities to snag things I’m merely curious about rather than specifically, significantly interested in. This is how I got the “This Switch Is Called” linears that I’m currently enjoying, and also where the headroom in my budget for the aforementioned Chladni came from.

I was really slowing down over the past year or more, but that didn’t last, lol. I don’t know why they got me so bad, but Neo and TKD are offering form factors or amenities that I’ve never experienced at insane prices (good quality to boot). FRL TKL in the Cycle7. Tented Alice in the Neo Ergo. Full brass bottoms in the Neo 75/60 cu. They have made it hard to pass up. And of course I had to pick up an Agar for the EC kit.

Regardless, the more boards I build from my backlog, I kind of get less excited about each one. Even with different form factors, layouts, mounting styles, materials, switches, and even keycap profiles, they kind of just blend into the same experience. Topre being the stand out.

Something absolutely snapped in the last month or two. I’ve been completely fascinated by mechanic keyboards for well over a decade. But :man_shrugging:, I’m just not currently all that interested.

I have a few sets of keycaps that recently arrived that need to try out on something, but I’m just not feeling it at the moment.

It’s an interesting change. Who knows. I have seen a couple of keyboards that interest me over the past month or two, but it seems easier than ever to NOT purchase them.

I think the current political climate in the US has had a pretty dramatic impact on my spending habits lately. I’m sure that is a big factor in the recent changes.

For me, it was the low profile world that pulled me back in. The lowpro community seems really into designing their own PCBs and cases, which spoke to me. Then LDSA + DDC keycaps as a combo has pretty much ruined all MX keycaps for me, which is good because it has re-stopped my MX buying, but at the expense of doubling down on Choc buying.

Yeah, the political climate has me rethinking a lot of things, and prioritizing what is important. Part of that is stability too as I happen to work on a government contract.

I don’t have much experience in the low-profile world (I don’t like sub 4mm travel in general so I’m not sure that I could get into it), but regardless, I’m glad that you found something in this community to be excited about.

This is exactly what has been sapping the love out of almost everything for me right now. All my hobbies are getting crazy expensive, I’ve been laid off from work for awhile now thanks to the orange goblin’s back & forth about tariffs, & just see things getting worse till he’s out of the presidency. Even then it’s gonna take a hell of a lot work & cooperation between both parties to fix the mess that is currently being made. So I’m pretty convinced we’ll be feeling the effects of Trump’s BS for a long time.

Thankfully though I can say this hasn’t completely killed the spark of joy my hobbies bring to me. As I was very happy & excited by getting my VKR-94, also I am still pretty pumped about getting my F1-8X v2 & Spyder soon here. So at least all this political & financial madness hasn’t totally beat the joy out things for me so far!

I see myself in this quote :upside_down_face:

Although truthfully I should be smart and reinvest in myself… or whatever that’s supposed to mean

Also I have enough keyboards I’m happy with (for now), just want to buy some new switches to try them out

I’ve definitely cooled towards this hobby lately too. For me, it’s the situation in the U.S. combined with being burned on a few group buys (Rama, Kono, KikoLabs). I do like building and modding, so I’m trying to make time to perfect what I have. And I really love all the creativity and support in the 40s community, so I’m lurking around there a bit!

This is where my main focus in the hobby has been lately; I’ve replaced the stabs in a bunch of my keyboards over the past few months and I’m a lot happier with them now.
