What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

Aw, heck.

Some of you may remember me posting my AEKII from storage weeks back. Turns out more fond memories came when typing on ALPS. Sooo… here’s something I snatched of ebay the other day. Going fully retro

These Whites are brutally tactile.

Edit: Seems like these are not ALPS. Who knows more?

Omron, Acer, and SMK all made Alps clones in large quantities. I’d wager it’s one of those. Many unitron keyboards were actually made by Datacomp.

Thank you,

yes there is a Datacomp sticker on the bottom housing.

Picked up a G603 for $35 to use with my Flow X13 since using the trackpad while gaming is an exercise in futility when it comes to playing GTA V. (Probably others too, but that’s literally the only game I play lol)

A couple components for my partner’s build: GMK plate mount’s and some hilariously packaged, very thin ABS OEM keycaps (should she use these? I’d say she’s a more casual than professional gamer, but I’m sure she’ll try to live up to the name).

Some details from the back:

Notable details: materials: plastics, increase cool factor, a more prominent look.

On more serious note, what’s the meta for warped ABS bars? This one’s kinda bananaed…

As they say in the business, those are scuffed. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Also, you might be able to straighten that out by carefully heating the bar in boiling or very hot water. Just enough to bend it back into a reasonably less taco’d shape.

That spacebar is pretty bad… that aside, those look like Tai Hao caps, which I think are fine. A huge step up from pad-printing, anyway.

Light caps can help bring out the character of more mild switches, too - I definitely think they have a spot at the table.

Hit it with some heat from a hair blow dryer and place it under a book. Not too much heat of course.

I got a very fun prototype in today.
an all aluminum P4kcr3 prototype!
with the POM base in it, this thing sounds great, and looks even better, I’m going to have to do some test anodization pieces.

The Datalux SpaceSaver with MEI T-15 switches. It’s possibly the worst value keyboard in my collection thus far. The switches feel like absolute crap, but its NOS! RIP print screen cap.

That’s amazing, what even are those switches? They don’t look like Cherry from the top, but I can’t really tell.

They are these: MEI T-15 series - Deskthority wiki The caps are MX compatible, but I’m not sure why anyone would use these caps anyway.

Chyrosran22 made a video on this board too.

Mitsubishi switches? That profile are those caps? The enter looks crazy like a trapazoid.

Yeah, it’s weird and wacky. It definitely belongs in Things that make us go... hmmm - #227 by ajoflo

It’s a bit hard to tell with that picture, but the enter key is also taller than the rest of the caps (I have no idea why though).

This is one of those boards I absolutely love and would definitely get if I saw in the wild… even though I know I couldn’t practically use it.

I’m starting to question my judgement.

Mekanisk klippe case with case foam, wt60d weird flex pcb, acrylic plate from Carolinamech, 205g0 lubed tealios switches, xht-bdz lubed durock stabs, and some akko keycaps

Although the weird flex pcb and acrylic plate are kinda wasted because of the tray mount style. I’m wondering if dremeling any of the mounts will make a difference.
