What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

Lube level: suffocation

Are these MX blacks?

They were at one point, yes. Some time and a lot of cleaning will tell if I can revive them.

I don’t know what the housings look like, but you could very easily put those stems in a medium size tupperware container and shake for several minutes. This will distribute the lube more evenly on the stems, but it will also coat the tupperware container. Then you can use a paper towel and wipe down the inside of the container. Repeat as many times as necessary until you get a nice, thin coating of lube on the stems.

You’re essentially removing the lube slowly by transferring it off of the stems and onto the container. It should produce a very thin coating that is perfect for linears. However… I don’t know how much lube remains in the housings :upside_down_face:

A swipe with a dry brush/applicator from the bottom up in the housings should pull any excess lube out. Swipe up and wipe off on a paper towel. Just one swipe on each rail should go quickly.

And in case you’re wondering, I wouldn’t worry about lube that gets on the cruciform. I’ve never run into issues from leaving it. If you really want, you could wipe them with a microfiber cloth or paper towel once they are installed in a board.

You could also use gallon ziploc freezer bags to start fresh each time.

I found if you flip the bottom housings upside down on a paper towel, and hit them with some low heat (that’s important) from a hair dryer, the excess oil’s viscosity decreases to the point it’ll drip down onto the paper towel. The paper towel ends up looking like the bottom of a pizza box.

But then I can’t make it sound like an old timey steam train pumping it’s pistons down the tracks :joy:

Been playing Cyberpunk lately, which makes me want to call these “moonchies” - moon cakes.

I’m pretty uneducated about the cultural context for these, but I got some as a gift like a decade ago and I’ve wanted some since. They’re not available all year as they coincide with an annual festival, so I was stoked to have finally timed my random impulse to buy them right. The ones full of nuts remind me of the Tolkien elven bread that can feed someone for days with a tiny volume.

Oh yeah these showed up like five minutes later:

  • Kinetic Labs PolyCaps Code for an xbox themed build, lol

  • Box Jellyfish clickies - I have shenanigans planned for these

Love the shades of blue on the Whale set - need to add a Dark Navy TKL to the family, so if anyones looking to let one go, PMs are open :grinning:

I got a non keyboard thing today. I might be moving for a job and I’m going to have to go through a bunch of stuff I have to see if I’m gonna keep it, sell it or donate it (and maybe keep some stuff in my parents basement lol)

@heebiekeebies Probably wondering what someone in their right mind is doing ordering 140 Aqua King top housings. I found that they make excellent matches for some of the bottom housings that I have so thanks for not giving me a hard time about it!

That book plus the Netflix show of the same name were really helpful for me. I was never a “hoarder,” but I was hanging on to so many things:

  • because it was a gift and I felt guilty giving it away/donating it
  • because I just need to find the time to fix it
  • it was expensive when I bought it but has depreciated and would be a “waste of money” to give/toss away
  • maybe, someday, at some point I’ll need/want this

Just being able to focus on only keeping the things I really loved gave me the freedom to let go of the things that were just taking up space. The whole idea of “things are made to be used and if you’re not using it, why keep it?” is so obvious in hindsight, but was definitely something I needed to hear.

Good luck!

Haha yup! I felt a little guilty because I didn’t want to buy too many since they’re replacements and I don’t want to deprive anyone that needs them. They fit and sound really nice with Hyperglide bottoms so I’m going to start there and see what I come up with.

Same! TKC shipped/delivered very quickly. I’m hoping to put them in a build tonight. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my very broken in MX Blues - so, pretty excited to get a fresh set of clickies to test and break in.

What are the switches below the Blackberries? TTC Bluish Whites?

Yep, the full-silent version of the TTC Bluish Whites. One of my faves.
