DSA Retro??? Wow.
yep!
I never believed that I’d actually get this set. I need to find a nice ANSI board to put it on for old time’s sake!
Just need MT3 now for the trifecta! ALL THE RETRO
Yay, got the 37usd Dream67 case today. Now the frustrating part of having to find a PCB that fits for it, and a daughterboard. The PCB has the gasket-mounting tabs on it instead of the plate, so finding a PCB is going to be tough.
The whole process for making this keeb would make an interesting write-up!
Would the innards from a Bakeneko 65 fit it?
MTNU WoB set!
UPDATE:
- They’re somewhat trickier to handle due to curved shape and low height.
- Texture is smooth but matte. I like it.
- Lowers switch sound by a notch. Liking how its effect on sound.
UPDATE2:
MTNU keycap profile feels pretty comfortable. Not awkward like SA. Home key (FJ) cup feels snug and easy to locate. QWERTY row feels a bit aggressively inclined but feels natural while typing and collision-free transition from home row to number row.
UPDATE3:
A bit more on the homing keys (FJ). With Cherry profile, I always used home keys with little bars instead of scooped version because little bars are easier to locate. With MTNU, homing keys are scooped with bottom edge of the scoop slightly raised higher (at least feels like it) than other home keys so they’re as easy to locate as the bars. Liking this part of the keycap profile design a lot.
Nice, they sound great! Although I wasn’t too worried about a Matt3o project. MT3 turned out great so I was expecting these to as well. Well at least the profile itself. I was a little hesitant about GMK working with new materials, but it looks like they worked the kinks out before they started running production sets!
FINALLY pieced together my DCS Midnight set to have all the keys I want & XMI Vintage support showed up today! Love the stickers Masjewerke included, the Boomer Beige Pantone one is easily my favorite! Gotta go through the set to makes sure all the keys are there & they all are in good shape, but they look good with a quick check over of the bag!
Edit: Holy extra caps Batman!?!?!?
All the keys the set was advertised to have. (the extra B shouldn’t be in this pic)
All the keys we actually get!
Not gonna be mad about extra HHKB & Alice support even though it’s not really vintage!
Got my MTNU here as well! Haven’t mounted them yet but I agree that the shape, texture, and legends are all very nice. Sadly, my 7u spacebar is banana shaped…
Sadly not, because it’s gasket mount and the mounting points for it are on the PCB. I’m trying to look around for other gasket mounted 65% and see if any of the other boards out there have PCB’s as extras to see if any of them would work. but thanks for the suggestion. maybe that would be a last-resort option, to gummy o-ring mount it in some kind of way.
if you made a plate with the gasket mounting spots would the PCB sit too low in the case?
I didn’t realize that the case is two parts. I figured that, since it was so cheap it would be cast metal a la the Cannonkeys Bakenekos.

I measured the length of the press. It’s not 4mm. It’s short here, about 3.8
But they write as 4mm
Measurements under the spoiler.
This could be an extra pcb for it but it has very little information other than the title and it probably doesn’t include the daughter board Dream67内胆补款链接pcb定位板卫星轴-Taobao
I saw this pcb on aliexpress but realized it was 60%
That’s a bummer. How bad is it? Is it noticeably worse than your typical GMK space bars?
I remember Matt3o inspecting the space bars on stream and showing that they not perfectly straight. The big question is, are any of them bad enough that they don’t play well with stabilizers.
My 7u is OK. Haven’t checked 6.5U one.
From what I have seen on matt3o’s discord, most of the complaints about the space bars have been about slight distortion on the top surface, above the mounting receptacles - mine are fine. And the injection moulding sprue marks, which I thought were more obvious to my fingers when unpacking than to my eyes. A few people noted their space bars are not entirely straight, but not bent enough to cause problems.
I gather the space bars are top candidates for refinement in future manufacturing runs. I think they could do with being thicker, to match the heft of the doubleshot caps.
But even so, who cares about such minor imperfections when the surface texture is so exquisite? Silky and strokeable.
I was previously using SP DSS keycaps: similar height, also spherical, similar colourway (Dolch vs. Susu). DSS is a lot rougher, less dishy, squarer, a bit thinner, and instead of sprue marks it has flow seams on the backs of the keycaps. But I have not yet formed a clear opinion about how they compare in use.
My acoustic upgrade also makes it harder to compare them. The red susu enter key thocks so hard.
More HMX switches from Unikeys. These ones are Swifts, basically the same ideal as the Clouds but with softer plastic for a deeper sound signature. The top housing is P3, the stem is LY, & the bottom housing is PA 3.0 nylon. Comparing them head to head with the clouds & they actually do have a deeper sound. It’s not a huge difference, but not snake oil either. Beyond sound they are super smooth & have the same full travel with stem bottom out as the clouds. Like said before at $0.35 a switch these are winners in my book! Just wish these & the Gateron SLAY switches were part of Unikeys BF sale!

I’m a little late to the party, but I’m enjoying my set of MTNU. I wasn’t too thrilled about the sprue marks, but the dish, legends, texture, and color saturation are top notch. I agree with @donpark that row two is a bit aggressively angle though – I feel like my middle fingers are getting stubbed when reaching up to the row. I do think it’s something that I’ll get used to, and I see how it’s much more of an ergonomic design than cherry. I haven’t noticed any warping on my spacebars.
