What did you get in the mail today? (Part 1)

Yup. I did polish its texture and shape though.

Thanks, I was thinking to buy these keycaps for a while now but I wasn;t sure how they look like in real life and they look great.
Last question : are you satisfied for the quality and do they produce a good sound ?

I am satisfied with the quality and they do produce great sound. What I didn’t like was the texture and sharp edges but one can use micromesh to adjust to your preference.

The print is insanely well done. I’m still surprised by how good this mat is.

Not today, but a week ago or so, I got some Duhuk qk01 switches from Aliexpress. I picked them up because of the positive review on Unikeys

I was a bit underwhelmed when I first tried them. But I revisited them yesterday and realized I was mainly put off by the spring. It was too light for my taste. I swapped out the springs for some slightly heavier 20mm springs, and I’m really enjoying them. Very smooth. Clacky, but clean. No weird catches or ticks. I like them! I wish they were easier to find.

I bought the Lofree Flow last night. (Amazon has them for cheaper and faster than their own website if you make sure the 10% off box is there).

Initial impressions are very good. With the context that it’s a low profile board, I like it quite a bit. It fits in my bags and the typing experience is more than I thought I’d be able to get in the form factor. I kind of wish is was tri-mode because I dual boot my tablet, but I don’t really mind using a cable anyway like I was already doing with my other build.

How did you end up liking this? I just found out about these things browsing HIBI’s site. Looks pretty dang cool for a relatively cheap 60%.

It was really fun and sounded good, but the rubber gets fuzzy. Hard to explain but dust likes to stick to it like crazy. Ended up selling. But it is unique and a great keyboard.

Ah, I can imagine just what you mean having had other silicone products. That sorta dampens the appeal, especially considering it as a travel board. I’ll keep it in mind though, there are probably ways to clean the silicone every once it a while. I know that there are other products ahem that are made from silicone and are best kept clean.

The fuzz factor is why I ultimately passed on that one - my house is waaay too dusty for a silicone keyboard to stay pristine for very long >.>

We have a few silicone mats (mostly used as craft project surfaces) and they clean up well with soap and water. But they are 100% magnets for dust with some crazy static cling. My experience with these mats is why I passed on the Hibi board.

edit: autocorrect strongly believes “Hibi” should be spelled “Hibiscus.”

You reminded me that I have a silicone work mat I got a few years ago from American Haptics, from solder, flux, and dust it looks terrible. I suppose I should try and clean it but I keep it in the garage. I do try to keep my desk cleaner than that but I don’t clean it enough, the June might get pretty dank after a while.

On a tangent, I just searched and it appears that you can get silicone mats off of Temu, Amazon and the like and they are considerably cheaper than the AH one I got.

ps. I did a bit of googling for a different silicone Hibiscus keyboard before I realized that Hibiscus is either the inspiration for Hibi’s name or your phone did an auto-complete.

I use masking tape to clean my silicone mat, works really well. I have 6" wide rolls for vinyl transfer decals and they’re perfect for stuff like lint-rolling the mat.

I’ve been wondering if Hibi is short for hibiscus (the flower on Hawaiian shirts) or Hibiki, a Japanese surname that means something like “sound”, “echo”, or “resonance” - I know it from the whisky, but it fits for keebs.

hah, sorry about that. You’re correct about autocorrect.

Man. Those American Haptics mats are $$$. I bought a Kaisi mat off Amazon a few years ago and it’s held up well. I keep it laying flat in the cardboard sleeve it arrived in so it doesn’t develop any curls. I mostly use it for lubing/building, but stray flux/solder wiped off with zero trouble the one time I soldered over it.

The Fugu gods smiled upon me today! I also got that cheap Flemo cable in from EZ cables. For $30 bucks off Amazon I think it’s a hell of a deal if it holds up! Oh I also got two more of those acrylic evil boxes from Dorp yesterday, needed more to house my ever expanding resin collection.
