How’d you go about lubing the wire pocket in the stems on TypePlus stabs? I’m figuring we probably want more than a thin coat there, but it is such a big space compared to a traditional stab it’s gonna be hard to not over lube them. I should probably use them on a hotswap build to test them out some, but the next build on my list is putting together a solder PCB with roller switches & a POM plate for my XOX70 now that I know they can be used stock. Although I took one apart the other day & the balls stayed in place in the stem, I think you could hand lube the KBDfans ones.
Am I nuts? All I’m seeing on that OS key is the e-Machines logo ![]()
flashbacks to that one time my power supply literally caught fire
Hot damn! E-machines was the first prebuilt computer I bought with my own money. That was back in 1999. I even upgraded the GPU in it! I’m pretty sure I’m going to tell everyone that’s what it is going forward.
I put a very small amount of Nyogel on the wires but nothing directly in the pocket. Too much space for it to goop out
HMX 3.9mm sunset gleam. In the strangest packaging. I had no idea what it was when I first opened the box.
I tried to get a closeup shot on the counter but my cat did not allow
So here it is in my hand
Also got MZ Y1 linears.
The sunset gleam feel nice. Smooth and stable. A bit higher pitched than I would like on bottom out. I believe they have added fiberglass in the mixture. The MZ switches sound super good and I love the spring. But the the wobble is pretty bad. On par or worse than early Gateron.
A 1985 Wyse WY-85 Gate Array board, with Cherry black switches. Now to build a Soarer’s converter for it.
Wow that is fun to see, split caps lock and F1-F20 keys.
I see a cat. I like it) ![]()
I was so worried when I was assembling them that I would bend something. It’s tricky and takes some practice for sure. And like you said, it’s rather difficult to lubricate the wire in advance because it will mostly get smudged around in the process of trying to assemble the stabilizer.
After some delays with customs, I got my Panda Red set from Osume today.
I love how each row is in it’s own plastic sleeve and labeled for easy assembly.
I love it! Can we get a giant “Do” button in the WYSE DCS set?
Also, screw F13 layouts, we need to go all the way with F20.

Well, there is a 2u R1 mold for Backspace, so slapping “Do” on it should be feasible…
(I did incorporate “Do” into my Wyse design; it’s a R4 1u novelty in SA’s Alt Mods kit, and a R1 1u Esc key in DCS’s Yellow Alert kit.)
Glad I wasn’t the only one who had a bit of trouble assembling them – for whatever reason, the space bar one was easier than the 2U’s, maybe because it was longer?
I tried them stock and found they still had an unacceptable amount of rattle. Since I had no idea what exactly to lube or how much, I sorta winged it and probably went on the side of “over-lube.”. I did the same places @Neprawda did, though I did it post-assembly. Only a light coat for the clip-in part, but went ahead and filled like 50% of the slider hole with 206g2.
Result was on par with the Keychron stabs it was replacing (which incidentally are some of the best stock stabs I’ve seen, as they lube the ever loving bejeezus out of them).
But…I’m still not entirely sure my thoughts on them yet. Definitely seems better than Ye Olde Stabs but still needs a lot of lube. Need to compare them to lubed Knight or Wuque stabs in the same board (which will be a royal PITA but needs sciencing to find out).
My video about stabilizers (about the review for 2024) is not in English. So there is no audience coverage.)
So I’ll repeat it here again.))
The rattling of the stub is not the stabilizer itself.
This is the totality of everything. Keycap + switch + stabilizer.
In my video there is a moment where there is a clean dry default keycap of the space. And of course it has additional sounds.
Dry keycap space is generally not possible without lubrication.
But here I collected 3 types of “2u”.
Dry default and crooked wire.
Dry default but straight wire.
Lubrication, but crooked default wire)
And the switch wasn’t even the best one, it has its own overtones.
But the stabilizers performed well.
They have an advantage. This is minimal wobbling, wobbling up and down.
Got my order in from Divinikey yesterday. I wanted to try out the Geon trimmer & let you guys know how that is before I posted, but I fell asleep shortly after getting in from work last night LOL. Will try it out this afternoon & report back. Oh the Geon stem holder is much nicer than TX’s it seems like too!
Edit: Got that batch of CRP Rd.4 I got for $70 in today! I’m shocked, the caps have literally never been used! I thought they’d have some wear for all I got at that price. The seller didn’t mention condition in the post & you couldn’t tell from the pics, but I figured for the price they were at least used a few times. Pretty nice score all in all! I got an All in beige mod kit, Icon mods kit, R5 kit, Arabic alphas kit, APL alphas kit, & White spacebars kit in this deal.
R5 kit & spacebar kit not pictured cause I had to put them in my other CRP tray to fit my collection in 2 JTK max trays.
