Lucky for me I have the perfect warm case for it!

WK870 from ebay for $35 including the shipping, + Zeal Clickiez.
Just waiting on a set of Cerakeys to complete it.
Oh yeah that goes perfectly with that finish on the Canoe!
The gray and yellow seem to be both warmer and darker than the initial renders. I’m not sure if this was intentional, or a failing of color matching (and if so, which party was responsible).
as far as darker, I think it’s close. Yes, maybe a shade darker than I had anticipated, but close. I’m not sure about the warmth. The art on the box is definitely neutral gray, and the keycaps don’t match it. But the plastic is a custom color, so I’m sure Nephlock picked it out. ![]()
I think my Instagram post shows the set a bit warmer than IRL. But the comparison pic is pretty accurate.
I think the pics on Novelkeys created/posted for the extras looks spot on so if you’re buying a set now (like me) you know what you’re buying. My observation is more relevant to those who purchased it previously who only had renders upon which to make their decision.
My cancelled order of Keepscape x HMX Snow Crash arrived anyway.
I was half-expecting lube to be everywhere but, in a handful of switches I opened, I found:
Switch sound was not consistent between switches nor between keystrokes. If whatever left the streaks on the housing rails is actually the factory lube which they say was applied to rail bottom, then that could explain the sound inconsistencies.
I’ll have to try clean a few switches by hand with alcohol to see if that does the trick. After that, try lubing it with 205g0 (a must for PA66 IMO). It’ll have to be a very thin layer (super tight fit in there).
UPDATE: After cleaning by hand, sound is more consistent, consistently wimpy that is. Not sure if it’s the switch or my cleaning.
Tactile Tuesday! Added 40 more TTC Bluish White to the set I already have, 90 Gateron Mini i, and 100 Viola Tricolor. I’ve been on a switch kick lately—probably because I’ve been trying to avoid buying additional keyboards—and these add to the HMX Purple Dawn I received a few weeks ago. Good stuff all around!
Finally a Cherry G84 that’s functional. It’s a 4100L and i hate the layout and size of keys. But it’s neat for the collection anyway. I also have a G84-1800 assembly that a cherry employee deemed to be a fake / not a real cherry product. The Cherry ML switches aren’t as terrible as i thought, but still not what i’d call good. Wish there was a standard sized (in terms of key spacing etc), standard layout ML PCB or something.
There are almost no differences.
SPEC
But there are minor differences.
Buzz has a slightly smaller wobble in the stem.
Therefore, the pressing is better in comparison.
But they both make a click-click sound (I think logically it is a spring)
Both have a pleasant pressing, but Buzz has a smaller wobble in the stem, so the pressing is even more pleasant.
I do not recommend buying)
Good mail day today! Very good, even!
ZenClack Pleiades. It was a seller who was selling random Meirun switches by weight. I chose 250g and didn’t think they’d be any ‘well known’ switches. But they are, and even have ZenClack nameplates. Funny how that works.POM stem and PA66 housing on them, if i remember right. Slight scratch, just as described on their listing, but not unpleasant. Just… whelming.
Jixian Holy Cattle v2. I already received and am typing on V1 of these, but it was just recently discovered that there was also a v2, which is 5-pin and has some improvements, so i had to get them. POM stem and Nylon housing, i think. Very unique bump and the wobble is also quite okay. The sound is most special about them, besides the bump. A very… muted but higher pitched sound, i’d say.
LCET Christmas Star. POK stem and modified Nylon housing, and a recent addition for LCET. It’s good to see them finally pop up more often with more and more customs. Stem wobble is average on these, it’s not bad and quite tolerable. Decently smooth long pole linear with prelube and a long spring. The sound of them is not too high, but still on the higher side of things.
LCET Ding Zhen. Most excited about these! POM+UPE blend long pole linear stem with PC top and modified Nylon bottom. I would say that the stem wobble is average, maybe a tiny little better than the christmas star’s, but much smoother and more solid feeling. The sound is louder, but deeper. The bottom housing molds remind me a lot of some other manufacturer but i can’t quite place it just yet.
A bag of LCET samples. Interestingly, there was a Jerrzi red included in there. Some people were suspecting LCET to be in some kind of way connected to Jerrzi and Huano for a while, maybe even to Outemu. They all share very similar Housing molds sometimes, and often use the same Stem molds. Very confusing, and this could make it even more confusing. Also some G-Rule and “MEN” branded switches made by them. There was also one, with a green stem, that is so nice that i want to hunt them down now. But i don’t know if that would lead to anything. They could just be a factory frankenswtich.
Got KKB Machinist the other day.
I put a few more pics on my Instagram post
A few things about the set:
There is no alpha colored tilde key. And there is no mod colored pipe key. Also, look closely at the accents/novelties if you are considering purchasing. It’s hard to find a combination that makes sense. Quirky but I do like the vibe it gives off
Oh that is odd. Usually people prefer one or the other - alpha colored for both tilde & pipe or mod colored for both. Not this mix-n-match.
Apart from that, looks nice. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I thought maybe I was missing a cap but nope. Checked the product page and that’s just how they are
Also received some Sillyworks Gateron Type A and L tops that they are selling separately. Those are amazing for tightening up the stem wobble on older Gaterons. Except Gateron keyfirst cream, those still wobble. Not sure what else to do with them, outside of gaterons.
Got a pack of Drop Halo Trues for my X-Bows Knight Plus. Pictured is the keyboard with all of the switches and the four left over switches to the side. I’ve used Cherry MX Clears for years, but lately I’ve been on the hunt for some better switches — something that will actuate sooner, have a rounder tactile bump, and an easier actuation force, but still prevent me from bottoming out since that causes pain and slow typing for me. So far, I’ve tried Gateron Browns and Reds just for the hell of it, and Drop Holy Panda Xs and now Halo Trues. So far, the last ones are the best for me, but I think their actuation force is still just a little bit too heavy, even though I really like how cushiony the bottoming out force is and how suddenly and far it goes up after the tactile bump and the actuation point.
I had this (sorry) horrible keyboard and get rid of it very quickly. Cannot agree that ML switches are any close to be acceptable.
Waiting un-patiently for PBS keycaps (new profile from matt3o) that apparently fit new Kailh LP POM switches to finally get decent low profile keyboard.
Welcome!
Well, they aren’t great by any means, but i’ve had much worse before. Even Cherry MY (with white stem) and their horrible binding. Or Fujitsu Peerless. Those ML are quite acceptable compared to that. Well, besides the much smaller spacing. That’s driving me insane.
