I got some switches from KineticLabs because they were on sale. Some Haimu Capybara linears, some more Cherry Oranges, and some cherry browns. But the browns came in baggies labled Hyperglide… and I paid for MX2A. So I’m not sure which version I have. hmm…
Nice, the Y2s slap IME. So super deep sounding for a pole bottom out switch! Also my batches from Unikeys had on point factory lube. I could happily use them stock (I got the 37g variant) & I’m sure you guys know I’m fairly snobbish about how my switches are lubed. To the point I wouldn’t even let people known for lubing switches do my batches. So factory lube has to be exceptional for me to ride with it & Keygeek has been consistently pulling it off IME so far! Let us know what you think of them after you get to use them a bit bro!
Eh, even though MX2As are quantitatively better than HGs or retools I still prefer older Cherry switches over MX2As TBH. 2As seem to be higher pitched & that stupid glob of factory lube in the bottom housing just baffles me. Also with Cherry moving production to China I think German produced Cherry switches are gonna start to be highly sought after. So getting HGs instead of 2As might be a blessing in disguise bud.
I might pick up a base set from Prototypist… still debating. I don’t suppose you have the GMK version to compare the colors?
Oh man, this would look perfect on my CTRL Hi-Pro in “bronze” with its rounded corners around the key clusters… but does it deserve it…
I don’t, sadly… didn’t even know there was a GMK version till you mentioned it lol
More enabling of my resin addiction, got a Artisan Collector Prayge from Alpha & Meowijuana Soomblank from Soom in today!
Regardless of the drama about the quality of the metallic ABS flow lines and whether it’s a bug or a feature, I’m just bummed they didn’t make a set of gold F keys or macro keys so I could finally recreate one of the renders of the Zenith.
Alternately, a perfectly serviceable hack would be to get metal artisan macro keys, and use the Black & Gold base set ![]()
I’m excited to see it on whatever you intend to use it for, since mine isn’t going to see the light of day for awhile.
Yesterday I decided to assemble, to do the assembly.
I wanted something big, not 60, but 70 or more.
I had one of several free for assembly from my sandwiches at suklo7.
There was an aluminum plate there. I wanted it to be metal.
I assembled it, turned it on and…
I have some HG Browns in the Classic-TKL. While they do deliver on “classic Cherry sound,” they are annoying in other ways.
First, yes they are scratchy. Absurdly so. That has always been my experience with Hyperglides. [Except some nice test switches from early batches, those were less-scratchy than pre-tooled.]
Second, there are reports of R3 binding with Cherry keycaps, though I didn’t test this.
Finally, the bump on Hyperglide Browns seems to be noticeably larger than pre-tooled. They are almost Ergo Clears. And I would know, because I am switching between them and Ergo Clears.
They don’t have that watery gliding-nature that pre-tools and probably retooled have. They are more “snappy,” almost as if they are trying to emulate MX Blues. It’s a more definite bump for sure, which people were asking for. Some people really loved the early batches that came in some Ducky keyboards.
Anyway, that’s why I think I prefer MX2A Browns for typing. I have a board with 57 G springs, but they are just a little easy to bottom-out. So I may go with 58 G. MX2A are smooth and the bump is fine, and I’m not usually building for “Cherry sound.”
So does anyone know where good batches of MX2A Browns can be bought, before they change manufacturing location?
I’ve been looking for MX2A browns as well and just found them in stock at $0.35/switch at Omnitype:
They also seem to have most other MX2A variants in stock (blue, red, black, etc):
Shouldn’t be too much longer! I’m putting it on a black and gold QK100 that shipped-out 5 days ago. :3 Building it for my new office job.
Now I just need to decide if I’m using Silent Bluish White tactiles or Nightshade linears…

Congrats on the new gig! You should celebrate with Clickiez or Box Navies on your office keyboard. Every keystroke will be like a little celebratory gunfire!
Hell, with how loud some of these junk keyboards offices tend to supply are it might just fit right in.
Hahah yeah seriously.
Now this is super cool! Got that Reveal ergo ALPS board in today! It’s basically NOS, but I didn’t get the box with it. I’d be surprised if anyone typed more than a sentence on this from how clean it is, how little wear there is on it, & how great the switches feel! The model no. is KB-7061 so it is a Chicony rebrand. The switches are SKCM White ALPS, in a good 9.8 out of 10 condition (they feel even better than the SKCM Whites on that NOS ALPS numpad I got!). Then caps are very nice thin double shot ABS. Don’t think they’re DCS though, possibly OG Tai-Hao caps? Overall very happy with this find, it was bit costly thanks to shipping from the Netherlands but not like you can find these boards almost brand new like this anytime so money well spent IMO!
