Wowie now that is beautiful to see it in such good condition.
I didnāt know they had Blues in the MX2A style now. That is pretty cool. I have been thinking about giving Blues a second shot.
A lot of things have changed since I started working at home full time. I was thinking about trying true HHKB layout again cause it is a heck of a lot easier to commit to that if I donāt have to use a laptop in a meeting room.
I like the ESC key - makes you want to hit it with authority.
The missing PCB replacement showed up today. Will admit getting them to reply in the first place was annoying, but happy it showed up. Now I have two spares and can rebuild it (not desoldering current configuration because no gun and not doing it by hand). Thinking of trying it plateless.
I was surprised to see Omnitype had MX2A Blue; it popped up as a āyou might also likeā option and piqued my interest. Iām curious to see how they compare to something like TKC Blackberry.
HHKB is one of the few layouts I havenāt attempted, mostly because the lack of CTRL where Iād expect it seems like something that would really mess with so many keyboard shortcuts, particularly in programs like Photoshop. Obviously, CTRL in place of CAPS makes sense, but the muscle memory is so strongā¦
You actually get used to it pretty quickly, I found.
Last I had one it was the spamming ā\\\\\\ā instead of backspace when I had to work solely on the laptop keyboard. ![]()
I assembled it on NeoErgo. PP plate.
They just have a low sound, but not the quietest.
Probably the tip of the stem was made to make the pressing softer, the downward blow was soft.
Pleasant, quite smooth pressing. Good sound. The best is PBT, the sound is cleaner with it, and if 1.7 mm, then even cleaner and quieter)
I made a video on Instagram and YouTube.
There I also compared the switch with another " KEYGEEK".
And I made a sound test of different keycaps.
Seems like orders from Drop now appear as coming from CORSAIR MEMORY INC in USPS Informed Delivery notifications. Not surprising, but had a brief moment wondering what the heck I ordered directly from Corsair ![]()
Yep. Itās been that way since Corsair bought them a little while back.
Got my first tariff bill from Fedex in the mail today. For the Knight stabs I bought from Deskhero (because everyone in the US was out of stock), I get the privilege of paying $27.90 on $66 (USD) worth of plastic. Because China or something.
Meanwhile, Iāve gotten a number of things from Aliexpress with no tariffs involved. The delivery usually comes through a sketchy carrier thatās not USPS/UPS/Fedex/DHL, though, often at odd hours vs. regular deliveries.
Ali seems to circumvent them by pretending everything is coming from within the US. But the USPS tracking number they give doesnāt initially work, and thereās no transit activity for 2-3 weeks (while presumably itās shipping from China). Once it does finally arrive in the US, it suddenly pops up at a depot in Illinois, and the tracking starts working from there.
It truly sucks. I wonder what would happen if you didnāt pay it.
Probably hit you on your taxes if you dont pay tariffs would be my guess. Thankfully Iāve avoided any myself so far, although I think the Spyder will get me since Iām in the 2nd shipping group still a couple weeks out.
New news for me, old news for everyone else I suppose. ![]()
Itās been a lonnng time since I ordered from Drop.
I kinda thought about it, but I think Iām just going to do the old āsend them a checkā to at least make it take as long and be as painful as possible to collect. But, mostly seems like Iād be annoying some poor schmuck at Fedex and not anyone in the US government.
Maybe, or it could just be that Fedex pesters me and then dumps it to debt collectors. They did include what looks like US government forms detailing the charges.
Itās been a while, hasnāt it.
- Yusya Jungle. As far as i can tell, PC top, POM stem and PA bottom. A little on the wobbly side, but the sound is decently deep with minimal scratch, if any. Pretty Mid.
- WingTree OG Black. New Manufacturer āYushu Electronicsā known as WingTree. These are supposed to be a nod to vintage black switches, as far as i could gather. I donāt know the materials, but iād assume POM stem PA housing. Around 3.6-3.8mm travel with rail bottom out. Out of the 3 WingTreeās, these are the wobbliest. They have a slight scratch to them, which was intended for the vintage feel.
- WingTree ⦠Something with cream colored stem. Very stable, very smooth long pole linear. 3.5mm travel maybe? Otherwise not much info on them.
- WingTree⦠Something with orange colored stem. This one has a really fun and unique bump. The stem legs almost look round. And it feels like it too, very fun. Also, very stable and very smooth. I donāt know if itās because of the weird bump on the stem, but it feels smooth for a tactile. around 3 - 3.5mm travel. Hard to find info on them.
- LCET Star Flower v2. POM stem, POM top, PA bottom linear from LCET. Minimal wobble, but really good otherwise.
- LCET .. unknown Name. Itās hard to find specs and names for those LCET switches sold āunder the tableā. Most of the time they just pop up and disappear within a few days. Itās a medium-light linear with almost full travel.
- Greetech OG Black. Said to be a āreworkā of their old molds with āOG feel and sound, but improvedā but really arenāt. They sound and feel identical to my old Greetech blacks. I mean, i guess that was kind of the goal, but i donāt see any of the āimprovementsā. Same wobble, same scratch, same everything.
- F-Switch frankenswitch with JWK Yunmu stem. I normally donāt buy other peopleās frankenswitches, but these came with black nylon F-Switch housings, and those are really rare and unique. Never expected anyone to make frankens with those. It feels like a long pole cherry would feel like with cherry wobble and scratch.
- 2 new LCET stems. No info on them otherwise.
