What did you get in the mail today? (Part 2)

Always looking for inexpensive things to spruce up the desk space these days, and with Osume having a US warehouse now decided to pick up one of their artisan trays and a cheap Parker Jotter pen.

More resin (I swear I don’t have a problem! :upside_down_face:). This is one of Nightcaps newest sculpts called Memento Mori, I finally managed to nab one & this sale was all one offs to make it that much better!

:face_with_peeking_eye: I swear it’s not as bad as it looks, just a few shipments got delayed & all this resin started showing up at the same time! :joy:

Edit:

Got my latest switch haul in last night! Only had a chance to try them in hand though. The Keygeek Little Elfs are very good! They are very similar to the Y2s, nice deep & slightly muted sound. The factory lube is on point, no spring or leaf noise, so these can be used stock IMO.

The Kaihl Caligraphy switches are factory lubed, but very very lightly. I’m gonna hand lube my batch. Although just stock they are pretty smooth. The sound is more in the middle IMO, not high or low pitched. They are a bit on the louder side, but hand lubing them should bring the volume down a bit. No spring or leaf noise stock either. I’ll let you guys know how these perform once I get them in a board. First impressions though are the new materials they are using with these are just fine. Nothing really stands out about them vs any other switch just trying them in hand.

I bought another 90 pieces to make 70 stock and 70 manual lubrication. K01 Tactile

Although the discount on 11-11 was very tiny, I’ve been wanting to buy it for a long time and have been waiting.

So you like those K-01?

I received samples a while ago, when they came out. They seemed solid and well-manufactured, but the push-feel seemed very bland. Maybe I should try them again.

I wish HMX would just make a ‘Brown.’

I love tactile switches like the K-01, with a light press and a hump in the middle.
I can just sit on other tactile switches, but I don’t like typing on them constantly.
I like the Akko Pom Brown ones; they were the best for me before.
Then the Akko Wood ones came out because they’re designed to make less noise, so they became my best. But the spring was a bit heavy for me, so I had to replace it.
And these K-01s are just what I need. I like the stock ones out of the box.
I also bought one now so I have a stock 70 and a 70 that I’ll re-grease myself.

Interesting. I’ll have to try them again. For the Akko Wood, are you referring to the Rosewood?

The Roller Mouse Red came in today, and as expected it was just cut for some non-technical reason. I hate working with tiny stranded wire, but I just did the brute force approach and resoldered it along with some kapton tape and heat shrink, and it is working fine. I would just about guess this one was brand new, or used so lightly that it might as well have been. The label on the bottom says it was originally from a seller called Ergopartner, and the .com URL now directs to their Danish site. I wonder if this was a failed US expansion or the like. In addition to the cord being cut, the end of the box has been cut off, almost like overstock from a bookstore.

I’ve set it up for now on my work computer, and frankly the feel is very much like using a touchpad, though you could operate most of it with the heel of your palm if you wanted. There is some built-in hardware customization with the buttons and speed, but since left and right are physically constrained, it’s sort of inherently set to be a bit sensitive to ensure you don’t run out of room 2/3 of the way across the screen. One nice touch is that the bar can also serve as left-click and includes a piezo clicker, both of which can be turned off. Build quality is mostly quite nice, with CNC aluminum and high quality plastics, though I have concerns about the button unit below the bar. At $30 and a half-hour at the soldering station, I like it quite a bit, even if touchpads probably did moot it as a general purpose pointing device. At $400 retail, I would need a hell of a compelling use case.

Some smaller but still exciting things, i guess.

  • 2 Packs of Gateron mystery boxes. Gateron is still pretty decent.
  • OG Cherry WoB doubleshots from a G80/G81-1800. 35usd on Xianyu, and no shine. Only downside is that it’s not 7U compatible, but i’m sure i’ll find a way somehow.
  • Kailh Mix-5 and Mix-7 with some random VGN branded Outemu mixed in. Ths clicky-to-linear switch on the Kailh is such a gimmick, and it barely works. Sometimes it doesn’t want to switch to linear, sometimes it randomly turns back to being clicky.

Oh wow, I didn’t even know those were a thing. That seems ambitious, but for what audience? You still have to remove the caps to make the change, and hotswap is basically the standard for anyone who would care, anyway. It’s like someone told them about Zeal Clickiez but didn’t explain them in any detail whatsoever.

How are the Mix-5 blues? Any improvement over Box White?

And it barely works too. If you switch it to linear and rattle or move the switch even just a little bit it automatically switches back to clicky mode again. Nice novelty, i guess. But not really useful.
And they are decent. The blues are clickbar and basically sound (the click, at least) and feel very similar to the box whites, just maybe with a little less wobble and better sound (of the switch itself, minus the click sound). The red one is linear and is pretty good too and remind me a lot of those full POM Kailh ice creams of various flavors.

This is the first I have heard of them also, definitely a reach on Kaihl’s part IMO. Cool novelty, but I agree with your take, who are these for? You might be right with your take about Clickez too, like they wanted to make something to compete but didn’t look into how Clickez work LOL!

Like this :3ildcat video from 3 years ago, but not as functional.

Whoa, I did not realize you could do that with click bar switches. That’s easier than switching modes with the Clickiez.

I got HMX Retro Js today and boy these are excellent. Mind you I’ve been using topres exclusively for the past 3+ years and I don’t think anything comes close. However, the Retro Js are simply remarkable.

This one is a random one.

  • “Elvis Presley” switches with “Maowang” nameplate, made by what i assume to be Jedel. They seem to have come from a CatKing “Assault” keyboard of some sort, haven’t looked too far into it. Long pole linears that aren’t the smoothest out there, but still pretty good. Little wobble, nothing too crazy. Sound is more in the medium pitch range.
  • A bag of a few random switches. Some rare goodies in there like TDX branded BSUN’s that were only from small GB’s in Malaysia, afaik.
  • LCET Cherry blossom. I thought these were linears at first, but they are actual Cicky. Didn’t know LCET had Clicky stems in this design. Very good switches otherwise, very little wobble and a nice, crisp click for a clickjacket.
  • A bunch of MX black stems. At first i wasn’t sure what type of black stems they would be, but turns out there are some Gems in there. 1 of the stems seems to be from 1984 or around that era, with another batch of 20-30 being from the 90s era, and 100 or so i’m nto so sure yet.
  • A batch of brown stems that are highly likely LCET, possibly from something like the Skyloong Chocolate brown.
  • A batch of dirty and grimy purple stems from unknown switches. They don’t share any mold markings with LCET stems, but i’m not sure how else to ID them. They feel good in cherry housings, at least.
