What did you get in the mail today? (Part 2)

It’s expensive, but it might never be this cheap again.

I learned this lesson when I didn’t buy them last year. They weren’t available when I wanted them. I suppose you could hand-modify a bunch of Gateron Melodics if you don’t purchase these…

Picked up the clearance priced Tempest blue Classic-TKL

Now to complete the keyboard summoning ritual. Also, time to build it.

It seems you really like the Classic-TKL  I’ve built one for a friend so far and I would definitely consider getting one for myself if the forehead was a little bit bigger. Purely to add random stuff like stickers on it.

Yep, I like em. Especially for $70!

It depends on the switches, but most of my builds have all foams removed. I enjoy the resonance of the plastic on these.

I can’t remember where else I saw this but that is gorgeous. How is the quality in terms of legend precision/placement/alignment? Are the colors as rich as you expected?
Now Yuzu seems tempting as ever.

Legends lined up exactly like I designed. The colors are great They don’t look uneven on the sides or anything either. I want to do more but it’s not cheap and it does take a month.

It was only a few days ago that I pulled the trigger on Gateron Lanes (thanks @pixelpusher for the heads up that they were in stock with protoTypist); I’m pleasantly surprised by the shipping speeds from the UK.

I can’t remember the last time I got new switches, so it’s a pretty exciting day.

Haven’t been this excited about caps in a minute. :3

Got this exact delivery yesterday! They turned out fantastic!

I threw them on another board I got in the mail a week or two ago. Another take on my Klor based custom split where the top case has an integrated plate. Inspired heavily by HHKB.

What do you think of them so far? Your photos are quite lovely here. Both interesting compositions.

I will say, I haven’t tried lanes with thick keycaps yet. I’ve only used GMK and DCS. Of the two, I preferred the thinner DCS with these switches; however, that could be keyboard specific. I’m using them in a tray mount plastic case (center and space bar posts removed.)

Both the weighting and the tactility are lighter than what I’ve been typing on for quite some time, so it’s taking me a while to adjust and really form an opinion. At first they felt quite boring to me but I think that’s because I was pounding on them. The more I soften my typing, the more I can really appreciate what’s going on in terms of crispness of the tactile bump.

I doubt that they will dethrone my modded clickiez as my favorite tactile switch, but we’ll see!

That all makes sense to me. Also why I think I prefer them with thin caps. You really do feel the switch more that way.

It didn’t occur to me to try thinner caps, I’ll give it a go!

Today I received my GSK x TGR 910 Polycarbonate board in vintage cola colorway.

I’ll take better pics when I get it built up

Was originally planning to do Lam Alert for the vintage cola vibe. Looks good, but might try something else.

Perhaps Thai tea. It’s got that orange/purple shift

Really cool! I like it. I almost wish the bottom was the Cola PC as well. That is a nice color.

It’s all the same color, it just gets darker when less light gets through  You can see in the 4th photo above that the light can shine all the way through the case.

I put GMK Thai Tea by it and it’s going to look amazing.

Picked up a polycarbonate Prophet for a crazy low price on the aftermarket. I ordered a custom clear IMA plate for it from Green Door Geeks (also on sale).

Built with a hotswap PCB for now but I may use the original solder one eventually. Actually , I may look for a PCB with underglow! I put my Lanes switches in this. It’s a fun board. Sounds and feels quite nice. Ultra lightweight.

Green Door is great. Plate is phenomenal but I asked for the blockers to be uncut, and he overlooked it. Simple request on discord and a replacement is already on the way :+1:
