What did you order or think about ordering?

I just ordered a bunch of parts for building a Geist Klor with saegewerk layout (https://www.reddit.com/r/olkb/comments/vxhmv8/klor_dejavue_time_3642_keys_rp2040_support_haptic/#lightbox to get an idea of what exactly this is) in anticipation of the Mictlan keycaps I ordered.

The one I’m making has some modifications… No OLED display or encoder, which will lead to a lot of empty space on the top case. To make that space not just look “empty”, I needed to get an interesting material, so I just reached out for some quotes to get the top, bottom, and switchplate made from carbon fiber with a twill weave. I saw someone make a Totem with a CF top and really love how it came out - https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/1higbh3/geists_totem_cfrp/

I’m REALLY excited for this build. I think this one has the potential to take the crown jewel title from my KA2.

Some silly idea for a 40% to replace the Microcenter ortholinear (MK47) with broken software straight out of the box cough cough.

I liked the regular WS Yellow linears, although they were a light/medium weight:

The variant you are buying are very light. Should be interesting.

I bought some Hojicha Reserves from Invokeys a few months ago and ended up quite liking them, they’ve maintained the place in my Sonnet ever since. So a part of me wants to have a few more in stock in case these ever go out of stock/discontinued.

But at the same time I can’t really point to a specific need other than a little bit of FOMO. I have another Sonnet and a Brutal V2 1800, but I try and specifically avoid having the exact same switches in all of them. Plus even between the two Sonnets I use different plates to make sure I have a different experience. I will say though that I find it very difficult to find a tactile with similar bump profile and weighting, it feels like a true in between for me between T1s at the heavy end and Ergo Clears at the lighter end.

So maybe in the end I’ll get another set for prosperity’s sake

That’s very interesting. I was piqued by the used sale here of a set of Hojicha Reserves for about $50 - 60.

What would you say the bump shape and factory lube of the Reserves are like?

I was weighing between them and the Fleeting Gold.

Bump located at top with less pre-travel than T1s, a less aggressive ramp in force so its a little bit rounder feeling, and approximately the same bump length. I took this picture of a stem that had a little bit more factory lube on the legs than most of the others. Its well lubed but a little bit on the heavier side so combined with the 21mm 60g spring the bump shape isn’t quite as distinct compared to cleaning up the lube and changing springs to 60g 18mm.

Also they actually have 3.7mm of travel, not 3.6mm. They’re very smooth from the materials and molds, so I genuinely really like how they approach the glassy frictionless feel.

I’m quite a fan of these now, really just waiting for an excuse to acquire more so I can have a stockpile for the future

They’re still for sale, FYI :grimacing:

Thinking of ordering more HMX switches. Got HMX Macchiatos a couple of months ago I love them. Also bought HMX Hibiscus to replace the stock switches in my partner’s Bridge75 and was blown away. She liked the keyboard a lot more afterwards. Kinda wanna buy some for myself now lol

And 24 hours later here we are

One set of 110 which will be enough as spares in case I want to build something else with the same switches. After that I don’t really want to have all my keyboards be the exact same switches.

The 10 pack of MX Blues are for experimentation with Clear stems to see if the tactility boost is nice and non fatiguing. Also usable as Num Lock/Caps Lock switches for my Brutal V2 1800.

Keebmat has a pretty decent sale going on till the end of the year. Ended up grabbing one of the Virgo edition mats & a felt edition TKL sized mat.

Today was a brick and mortar purchase. We were in Akihabara, so we walked over a couple of blocks to Yushakobo. I grabbed their Primer79 PCB kit, and a little Dye-Sub DSA novelty. I’ll figure out a case later, whether I DIY one or have something fabricated, but I really liked the near-TKL layout and I wasn’t about to leave without something. What an awesome little shop and resource for the community. SO MANY ERGO SPLITS. :joy:

We ordered a whole bunch of new kitchen knives. Ours were cheap and finally starting to fall apart, so we ordered individual ones from Victorinox to cover what we needed. I also ordered a new Kindle Paperwhite as I plan to start reading more next year.

Went ahead & ordered the base kit of KKB Skidata Neo since I couldn’t use the child kits with my GMK Skiidata set like I wanted too. @HungerMechanic I’ll let you know how they are once they show up.

Spent some birthday and Xmas gift cards – well, officially I pinkie swore the Amazon gift cards will go to general household purchases – at the Novelkeys New Years sale and indulged my inner (and outer) Star Wars nerd. I also grabbed some Speed Navies, which I haven’t tried before but seem right up my alley. BTW, Skeleton Crew is really fun if you like 80s kid-ventures, Star Wars, and/or Robert Louis Stevenson.

100%, it has serious Goonie vibes (one of my favorites growing up) and Jude Law is the absolute perfect fit for that role. Really, really impressed with the kids as well! Fine young actors, a great series indeed!

My “let’s not buy something every time there’s a sale” resolution lasted 11 days.
