Actually, designer said plate material was steel and brass. I now remember the included plate was steel lol I’m assuming it’s mostly a material thing. It could also be that the cuts I originally did on this plate was more universal, resulting in large openings. I wonder if it’s a combination of the springier qualities of alu and the stupid large cuts.
Ideally I’d get a new steel or brass plate, but I may just try a fixed layout alu plate from Keyspensory (again) the next time I order from there. It’s cheap and quality is great.
Originally, I intended to showcase my keyboard “skins” on posts like "What is on your desk today? ", but I wanted to create a dedicated post to show how to decorate the keyboard and see what keycaps everyone has. I think it would be very fulfilling to share the results after the decoration. Please feel free to share!
I started first - couldn’t wait!
The jelly-like Glitter keycaps made me want to give them a try. Simple yet with a good grip!
Do you mean “skins” and “decorate” as in something like sticker bombing a keyboard? I’ve always been tempted to do something like that–your comment made me realize I have a scuffed up Tofu60 2.0 that I could actually try sticker bombing…
Now I’m kind of excited !
Anybody here have a stickered / sticker bombed keyboard?
PCBsnaps are good for the Hiney TKL One! I also wanted to revisit the Gateron Lanes. Two things really stand out to me now after having a decent amount of time using them. First thing is semi silent clicky is a better descriptor of these switches than tactiles when typing at speed. Testing them in hand & just slowly pressing a switch in a build doesn’t let you hear it, but there is definitely a small audible click with these switches when typing at speed. I actually kinda like it TBH & am also kinda happy it is there since these will start to click later in their life just like tactile ALPS. I’ll probably see if there is any mods I can do to mitigate it, just to see, but honestly the sound is pretty nice when everything is all consistent at the beginning of the switches life. The second thing is the housings collisions are extremely solid & satisfying, like much more than you’d expect from the standard PC top, nylon bottom, POM stem combo. I’d love to see a linear made from these same materials!
I’ve been hot on your tail for a long time “Listless Lama,” but you couldn’t run forever. You’ve been posing all this time as an American Llama (as evidenced by your comment above, among others), but you’re actually an Alpaca from Wales.
Retro Mixed Lights hits different on my two tone F1! Also a really good build to use them with because I have this tuned to deep/thocky sound right now & it definitely takes the edge off the higher pitch of KKB caps compared to GMK!
Deciding to put some use on my EnjoyPBT Miami Nights. Kind of wish I snagged the DK Miami Nights instead since I’m a bar user instead of scooped, but I think this set was $60 and has true Minila layout as well.
Oring mounted/wedged in there with a brass plate, some HMX Su Purples, and a GH60 pcb. Hefty little Fjell
I can feel my anxiety spike a little every time I try to home and can’t find the bars though…
QK60 sitting pretty on my desk today
Added the Cream Matcha novelties a while ago; not sure how I feel about them.
HMX Gachapons feel super springy on the acrylic plate.
Thank you very much for your approval. Hahaha! Oh, the ideas have started flowing. At first, all I thought of were replacing the keycaps or the switches. This is also a good method. Keyboard stickers will be available on Amazon. Recently, I’ve fallen in love with the Doraemon stickers. They’re so cute!
It is really low, without the rubber grommets as feet it would be even another bit lower. Unfortunately then the MCU would hit on the table then while using it. The ULP switches are really magic in that height.
I do have a PCB laying around for the Choeradodis by Purox also with ULP footprints, as its a 0.6mm PCB I think thats kind of the thinnest you could get. Even the 0.6mm PCB is really flexible already, I think I would even spare rubber feet on that one.
Whoooaaaa. That’s super impressive. We’re moving dangerously close into that Thinkpad keyboard territory; super cool.
I’m scared to ask but any sound/typing tests to share? haha
