What is on your desk today?

I designed this wacky keyboard stand. But I started a small shop at whalebone.shop where I have more aesthetic ones

Another one of my custom splits that were based on the Geist Klor footprint. This may be the last new board for a little bit because I’m having a hard time thinking about additional improvements that could be made to this.

I recently picked up a Merkur Futur razor handle that I love using, and I felt compelled to make a board inspired by that futuristic material aesthetic. The result is the new crown jewel of my keyboard collection.

  • Aluminum top and bottom plates
  • Matte Carbon Fiber switch plate
  • Slightly tweaked PA12 3d printed middle sections that rounded the reset button cutout and gave it a little more internal clearance to ease assembly.
  • Stock new nixie switches
  • PBS Blanks
  • Nice!Nanos running ZMK

It’s actually one of the few base sets I have as I transition from only ortho. I think it’s going to match the case perfectly though.

Re-configured my Class80 recently, and couldn’t resist a snowy photo.

While MTNU 800 is my favorite set in general and on this board, I was never quite happy with the build; I realized my copy of the 7u space was off such that it was always mushy. Another of the same size and profile worked perfectly, so I settled for my second favorite MTNU set I have on hand, Rascals - I love it with a nice creamy beige.

I also swapped out the Gateron X switches; they had a period-correct spring ring, but I didn’t like it. I replaced them with MZ Z1 budget linears and they actually slap; I tested a bunch of switches and liked them the best! Sound test at some point.

I absolutely love this chassis.

Looks so chilly with a snowflake on the Alt - like it needs a little keyboard scarf

Rebuilt my Classic-TKL with HMX Gulf switches and SA Motorsport Selectric; colorway designed & set run by @madmax13, novelty icons designed by myself

It sounds like this

A few more photos

Between the warm light in my house and the phone’s white balance the colors are pretty off, but you get the idea.

Edit; because I can’t leave this one out:

I’ve be been using my 500c for a few weeks now with stock cherry orange switches. Not exactly refined, but I can’t quit an aluminum, top mount with stock mx2a switches. The press feels super long and slightly textured (but not the same texture on each switch). I guess it’s got “character.”

I bought Nautilus back in 2017, but it’s been on my 1/65 for 6 years. I like how it looks on this one. Might keep it there

Yeah, Nautilus is an all-time classic colorway :kiss_mark::ok_hand:

Just shining up GMK Black and Gold on my plateless Arc60 with U4Ts. Love this set and board, so it’s getting a lot of love and use right now. Artisan is Hecky Blackgold by Gooey Keys.

I guess technically this could be considered a macropad. I got a couple of no-detent encoders for a buck each when I ordered my Astrodomes, and I used them with some spare parts to make my kiddo a controller for “Sound Voltex” style rhythm games.

  • Grab bag DSA caps, POS for the 2U
  • Masonite switch plate
  • Acrylic top and bottom plates
  • 3D printed “spacer and sidewalls case”
  • Double reds on the 2U, black on the 1u
  • No-detent EC11 Bourne encoders
  • Guitar tone knobs
  • Micro-USB Pro Micro running dedicated direct-wired firmware. It can be either 7 keyboard buttons and the two mouse axes, or else game controller inputs. USB cord is semi-permanently installed.
  • Double-stacked feet to clear the nuts.

That’s totally awesome, what a cool thing to make for your kid.
