Hi keyboard friends, it’s been a long time. I was really active on here like 5+ years ago, but tbh got to a point where I have several keyboards that are most excellent for me and kinda just lost interest in the diminishing returns of tinkering and just like, buying more stuff to have more stuff. I’ve got maybe four or five keyboards I use regularly, and like ten or more that have just been sitting for a few years. Same thing with keycaps I’ve probably got fifteen or more keysets and a ton of switches just sitting in my closet. I think it’s time to downsize and get rid of a bunch of stuff. Back in the day reddit mech market used to be the best way to sell stuff, is that still the case? Tbh I never liked selling stuff on there, such a headache with tons of people messaging you and then never messaging back or trying to scam etc. I sell stuff on ebay here and there, I was thinking of just throwing some of the key sets on there and seeing what happens, but sort of assumed I’d need something more specialized for more obscure keyboards. Any advice would be appreciated.
I’d say /r/mechmarket and its related Discord server are the best for good visibility by folks in the know. I do use eBay a lot, but mostly for bargain hunting. If you live in a larger area, your local discord can be good. You could also always throw up a listing here. The crowd is small but engaged.
my old person take is I hate discord lol, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that mechmarket has one. I forgot there was buy/sell on here, maybe I’ll through a couple boards up later.
I hear that, deeply, though it does worm its way in a little simply because it’s where the other people are. I’ve just decided to engage with it asynchronously and it is what it is. If I say something and don’t check for a response until hours later and it turns out I missed a conversation, then oh well.
I’ve made my peace with its being an important part of the hobby, but I truly do not understand what drew people to it in the first place.
I have a lot of switches from back in the day too, no idea what the switch scene is like these days but that might be something yall are more interested on here too.
I second the notion to post here as well. You may not get any bites because the regulars are a small group anymore, but it’s worth a shot. Plus you can create the post for mechmarket and just slap it in here since everyone is familiar with the format.
