Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

I could never type on such a thing, but that’s absolutely gorgeous to look at.

Sure, quite threatening at first sight, but if you squint hard enough, it’s a monoblock split with column stagger, some keywell, and an angle of about 60 degrees between the halves. When I designed my own board I ended up at 56 degrees so this is pretty close to my setup.

And until you squint hard enough, I imagine the mother of that brood of extraterrestrial energy-being eggs is going to mighty pissed at me for mashing on them. It really is a gorgeous board, though.

CK is now offering a few of the Brutal v1 boards as hotswap! Very cool.

It is cool! But also I’m confused.

Somehow they use the bastion PCB with daughter board. That’s what I was told by customer support. That seems to imply that they aren’t compatible with the old boards, but they are using the old boards…. Hmmmm

Maybe it comes with tape to stick the daughter board to the pcb?

Just asked in discord. The new brutal v1s have a custom DB and a tapped screw hole mount in the case. You can’t do hotswap in the old board unless you glue or tape the DB in place.

Yep. It seems like they may have had existing cases tapped with holes. Then they use the Bastion PCBs and a custom DB. Presumably they would have used the Unified DBs, so I assume they couldn’t make them fit. If you saw the glue bit, you perhaps saw where Ana said they would make the new DB available for people who want to glue them down.

I don’t really care about having a hotswap Brutal v1, but it makes it a really easy recommendation to people getting started, and then it will come ready to go.

Omnitype has 20% off giftcards. Could buy a $100 card for $80. Or a $200 card for $160. Max card amount is $250, but there is no limit to number you can purchase. If you like some of the in-stock items it’s a smart buy. Bauer Lite is going to be restocked some day as well. You might be able to use $80 worth of gift card purchase to pay for a GMK base set on sale for $99, which they sometimes do.

Looks like Ducky is doing triple-shot caps now - and in Cherry profile. Also also -

  • a bit more kitting support than their sets used to have. Not a bad price for tripleshot IMO.

oh I’m sorry… is the triple shot legends literally just lowercase letters? what?

It would have been more useful had they put AltGr legends for the US International layout…

GMK Phantom R2 is in IC:

Still my favorite GMK set to look at.

I’m delighted to see this finally get a re-run, and I’m a fan of the re-interpreted novelties. I don’t plan on buying a second copy, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about it: that purple is gorgeous on another level in person, and the time I spent keeping my eye out for a copy of R1 has my hoarding neurons activated…

Interesting new design that’s not a clone of Cherry MX (not so many apart from Kailh Box or NK Clickies)…
Any link, or design document ? Is it supposed to be clicky, linear or tactile ?
