Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

It kind of looks like they’re injecting the inside portion first, then over-molding the outer.

I think the inner portion may be a multi-part mold as well because I see witness marks on the front face that suggests that portion pulls back after injection. If that’s the case, I’d imagine these are very expensive tools they’ve created.

Hmm. Already bought all kits from Vala and got scammed. Dare I purchase a second time?

Toxic is a great set, 2nd colorway I absolutely fell in love with after Sky Dolch! I still need to get this & the GMK set, I have the JTK (Cherry profile) & OG DCS ones. Might pull the trigger myself!

I don’t have money for buying keyboard stuff right now but I really appreciated receiving promotional email (of all things!) from Kinetic Labs promising that they don’t use AI slop art:

“At Kinetic Labs, we believe art should come from people, not machines.

Our terms of service prohibit AI-generated artwork, so every design we sell is made by real independent artists who earn royalties when you buy.“

Pretty straightforward message and in an era of inhuman garbage ruining a lot of things I used to be able to enjoy more easily, it’s nice to see some folks in mechanical keyboards who get it.

This is the era of “No Talent Assclowns”.

I liked that email too. I love getting stuff from them because they include a card with their family on it. Their family fulfills all their orders. So cool. And they make PBT caps here in the US. I don’t care for many of their designs, but I like to support them by ordering switches from them.

Don’t have to worry about shine on the ABS if it’s already a mirror. Smart.

Seriously though, HSA is so nice.

Okay. I might just order! Thanks for sharing. One other question. Did you get hit with any tariffs from the shipping company?

Nope, they were included in the original shipping fee. The shipper in this case was a company called Yanwen.

I assume they’re doing it like Ali (who bakes tariffs into their prices now), Unikeys, Deskeys, Qwertykeys, and some others I’ve ordered from since the end of de minimus, where there’s some third party that does a big bulk shipment and handles the customs crap, and then they hand it off to someone else for the US leg of the delivery. Sometimes that’s USPS but in this case it was some random courier.

I have no idea how accurate they’re being on the customs forms, ofc, but that’s not my problem.

Divinikey has all the PCBsnaps back in stock for anyone interested. They’re out of KEYsnaps right now, but I’d imagine they’ll be restocking soon.

More Drop sales on keycaps. I am bringing my total count of MT3 sets to 8… it’s become my favorite MX profile alongside MTNU.

I have four just hanging around. I need to get a couple of them onto something soon, LOL, or the “really good price” starts to feel a lot less “really good,” LOL.

I feel that. I only will have 4 sets on my boards. Just stocked up on them to guide future build color ways.

Finally tried out the Gateron Konsus in my Spyder yesterday & they’re a big let down to me. The switch performs good, but is super loud & higher pitched compared to Sea Salt Smoothies or the regular ones. I guess since its made out of modified POM they must have added some fiberglass or something to make the switches have a more pronounced sound. Not my cup of tea unfortunately, especially coming off using Y2s & Blue Cheese v2s LOL! Wish they would’ve used the same material as the Smoothies.

Other than the sound though they are a good switch. So don’t let this deter you from them if you like louder, higher pitched switches.

Edit: So I went against what I said above & decided to keep giving the Konsus a shot & I’m starting to come around on them. I’ll preface by saying I still think they are a bit louder than most other switches & have higher pitched sound than you’d expect out of all POM. However I thought about it & I have been using very deep sounding switches for the last few months which lean to quieter sound overall just by their nature. So I think I got an exaggerated perception of the Konsus right off the bat. I also was using a KKB set on them at first (not sure if it’s just me but I think KKB caps seem to lean on the higher pitched side sound wise compared to GMK?) which didn’t help. I’ve now swapped to a PBT set (XMI Vintage Support) which really tamped the volume down a good bit & helped give the Konsus a really nice full sound. Figured I update since I am still using them.
